JUST IMAGINE THIS: An INEC Chairman reportedly tried to distance himself from an account said not to be his, only for investigators to point to an email match with the one listed on his official CV. If that is true, then this is not a small embarrassment. It is a credibility crisis at the heart of Nigeria’s electoral system. INEC is not a roadside association. It is the institution meant to protect the integrity of our democracy. Once the umpire begins to look evasive on something this basic, every decision it makes comes under suspicion, and public trust starts to collapse. In serious democracies, issues like this trigger scrutiny, accountability, and often resignation. In Nigeria, we are somehow expected to normalize scandal, excuse contradiction, and move on as if nothing happened. If the facts are clear, then Nigerians deserve more than silence. They deserve answers, accountability, and an electoral commission that does not look compromised from the top.
