If you are a senior PhD graduate student, postdoc, or junior faculty in #neuroscience, consider adding your name to my DIY database of peer reviewers. Many academic journal editors draw from this list and you may be contacted: forms.gle/qaggKQXuxkKxkY…

Our lab is hiring a technician! Contribute to the understanding of the social brain, using cichlid fish as models. Job entails management of genetically modified fish lines, support of ongoing projects through bench work and administration, and coordination of undergraduates.🧵

What if proximity labeling enzymes (e.g., TurboID) can be activated by Ca2+ transients, just like GCaMPs? We developed Cal-ID, a Ca2+-dependent proximity labeling enzyme. It seems to label active neurons well, here is our preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

And sure enough normal looking mosaic eyes hets had only weak motor bias! Nice example of how heterozygous mutations can cause subtle behavioral phenotypes like 'handedness'.

About 2 years ago disaster struck - motor bias became unreliable in our wildtype stock. Eric noticed that clutches with unreliable motor bias had 25% embryos with a curly tail phenotype. Turned out to be a serendipitous deletion of the mosaic eyes gene
