St. X won the race by 11 seconds, setting a state record, but it was the race within the race that garnered more excitement. Henry Clay edged Paul Laurence Dunbar by .27 seconds to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay, and earn a second-place team finish over the Bulldogs.
