If Leader Thune showed real leadership, we could pass the SAVE America Act. Nothing happens in Washington, DC without force. Throwing your hands up and saying, “We don’t have the votes,” isn’t enough. We need to stay and do the work we promised the American people.

Another recess is the LAST thing Republicans need right now. Stay in session. Finish the job. SAVE AMERICA.

If SAVE America is stripped out in the Senate, the blame will fall solely on John Thune. There’s a little thing in the Senate known as the “amendment tree.” It determines the maximum number of amendments that can be offered to any given bill. If Leader Thune deliberately “fills the tree,” he can block individual Senators from offering additional amendments—such as one to keep SAVE America attached if it is stripped out. Going based off his comments so far, Thune is planning to do this with the NDAA by offering his own version of the NDAA that does not include the SAVE America Act and “filling the tree.” He would probably plan to do the same with any other House-passed bills that include SAVE America. He is actively working against an issue that 80% of Americans support. Shame on him.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of my former colleague, Senator Lindsey Graham. He was full of wit, energy, and charm, and he cared deeply about the Senate and the people of South Carolina. Doug and I are sending our thoughts and our prayers to his friends and loved ones.
