The fight-fight-fight is ON in North Carolina and @RepKidwell is leading the charge. From @CravenCoGOP on fb: "This message should be shared with all 71 of our Republican members of the House. I hope that it will be. I know that we can count on Steve Tyson, Celeste Cairns, Wyatt Gable, and Keith Kidwell. I know that there are others we can count on too. But we need to be able to count on all 71. North Carolina Shrimpers Are Under Attack...We Must Stand With Them House Bill 442 threatens to eliminate North Carolina’s shrimping industry...an industry built by generations of hard-working families who represent the very backbone of our state and our Republican values. Let’s be clear: this bill is not about the environment... it's about power, politics, and money. Wealthy recreational fishing interests are using lobbyists to push false narratives about shrimp trawling and marine life. They want to shut down commercial shrimpers so they can have more access for themselves. And unfortunately, some in the General Assembly are listening. Here are the facts: Shrimpers are not harming fish or sea turtles. Federal and state laws already require Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs) and Bycatch Reduction Devices (BRDs), ensuring that shrimp nets do not catch unintended species. There is no credible science supporting claims of environmental harm from regulated shrimping in our waters. If our shrimpers are forced out of business, North Carolinians will be left with imported shrimp from countries like China, Vietnam, and others... often raised in polluted water, with altered DNA, and far lower standards. This is a matter of standing up for our people, our coastal economy, and our North Carolina seafood heritage. We aren't interested in what other states are doing or have done. That is their business. NC is our business. Let’s not forget who shrimpers are: our voters, our neighbors, and our legacy. They work long days to feed this state and keep our traditions alive. They are exactly who our party should be fighting for. Right now, 49 Democrats are expected to vote for this bill...no matter the facts. If none of them surprise us by thinking for themselves that means only 12 Republican votes are needed to hand our coastal waters over to special interests. THAT MUST NOT HAPPEN. We need every county, every district, and our NCGOP organization to stand together on this. We must hold all 71 Republicans in the NC House accountable. Not one Republican should vote with the Democrats. Not. One. Call your Representatives. Message them. Share this post and tag them in it. Let them know we are watching. This is a defining moment. If we lose this, we risk losing the trust of the very people who count on us to fight for them. Let’s do what’s right. Let’s stand with our shrimpers. Let’s protect North Carolina’s future. FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!! When the dust settles on this victory, we are going to find out why our friends NC Senator Bob Brinson, Michael Lazzara for NC Senate, Senator Norman Sanderson, and Senator Bobby Hanig were the only Republicans in the Senate that stood up for what is right."
