Today, on the liturgical feast of #OurLadyOfFatima, we turn our gaze to the Shrine, where the Virgin Mary entrusted the three shepherd children with a message of #Peace. Let us entrust to the Immaculate Heart of Mary our cry for peace and harmony, which rises from every part of the world, especially from people afflicted by war. #PrayTogether

My friends, I need to tell you about Kapili Village, where something I witness troubles me deeply. There is a primary school near this village. It has no water source. None. So the children and their teachers walk to a shallow, open waterhole, little more than a murky brown puddle spread across muddy ground. They crouch at the water's edge to scoop contaminated water into buckets. This is the same water that all 700 residents of Kapili Village depend on. The same water shared with livestock. It is brown, filled with sediment, pooling among exposed mud and tangled vegetation. And this entire area is at high risk for cholera. These children drink this water every day. They have no other choice. But we have a proven solution that works. Through our partnership with Water of Mercy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we can drill a locally constructed freshwater well that will serve this entire community for 75 years. We have now done this 18 times across this region of Malawi, bringing clean water to over 11,000 people. Each well has transformed an entire community permanently. For $5,500, we can give 700 people, including every child and teacher at that primary school, access to clean, safe water right in their village. No more crouching at muddy puddles. No more cholera risk. No more children drinking water shared with livestock. Kapili Village has raised $650 so far, 11.8% of our goal. We need $4,850 more to break ground. Help Kapili Village: waterofmercy.com/products/kapil… Can't donate? Please share or repost. Your network might include the donor who helps us reach our goal. Please be the answer to our prayers. #WaterOfMercy #CleanWater #Malawi #Catholic #WaterIsLife #DivineMercy

In some of the world’s most remote and overlooked communities, families are facing hunger, limited healthcare, and few paths to stable income. But Alabaster International is not bringing short-term aid and leaving.

It is highly dangerous to be a Christian today in North Korea.  In May of 2023, an entire family, including a two-year-old child, was condemned to life imprisonment for the crime of possessing a Bible.  That same month, a man already incarcerated in a detention camp was beaten nearly to death for the crime of quietly praying.  Please pray for our Christian brothers and sisters in North Korea, and pray that the light of religious liberty may reach even the darkest corners of our world.

Today we remember WWII U.S. Army Pvt. R. V. Smith, memorialized at Normandy American Cemetery. Normandy American Cemetery is one of 26 ABMC cemeteries worldwide. It contains the graves of nearly 10,000 of our military dead, most of whom lost their lives in the D-Day landings and ensuing operations. On the Walls of the Missing, in a semicircular garden on the east side of the memorial, are inscribed 1,557 names. We remember their service and sacrifice.

On behalf of the Christians of the #MiddleEast, and of all women and men of good will, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict: cease fire! May paths of dialogue be reopened! Violence can never lead to the justice, stability and peace for which the peoples are waiting.

In 2018, Father Omar Buenaventura, a Catholic priest from Peru, took a two-month-old baby named Ismael into his care after the child—who has Down syndrome—was abandoned at a hospital. A few months later, Carolina, a young woman from Brazil, arrived to volunteer with his team in serving abandoned people. During her time there, she developed a deep maternal love for Ismael, and he quickly grew attached to her as well. Moved by that bond, she made the decision to adopt him. Today, after Mass, Carolina and little Ismael departed together for Brazil, where he will grow up surrounded by her loving care. Image: Omar Buenaventura

The New START Treaty, which represented a significant step to limit the proliferation of nuclear weapons, expires tomorrow. I make an urgent appeal not to allow this instrument to lapse without seeking to ensure a concrete and effective follow-up. The current situation demands that everything possible be done to avert a new arms race. We must urgently replace the logic of fear and distrust with a shared ethic that can guide choices on behalf of the common good and make peace a heritage safeguarded by all.

In becoming man, Jesus took upon himself our fragility, identifying with each one of us: with those who have nothing left and have lost everything, with those who are prey to hunger and poverty, with those who are fleeing their homeland to seek a future elsewhere, with those who have lost their jobs and those who are looking for work, with those who are exploited, with those in prison, who often live in inhumane conditions. #Christmas

In the midst of unending conflicts, injustices, and sufferings that cry out for relief, #OurLadyOfGuadalupe proclaims the heart of her message: “Am I not here, I who am your mother?” Her voice makes resound the promise of God’s faithfulness, whose presence sustains us when life becomes unbearable.
