🏠 PUBLIC MEETING ON PROPOSALS FOR NEW HARBOROUGH TOWN 🏠 Thank you to over 200 of you who turned out to support our public meeting on Government plans to build thousands of new homes across the Harborough district, including development at Stoughton, Houghton-on-the-Hill, Thurnby and Scraptoft and the Local Liberal Democrat Council’s plans to vote in early January for the housing they will impose on our communities. Harborough District Council will make a final decision on 16th January 2025. However, it has emerged Councillors will only be shown the full proposals a week before Christmas, and I am concerned there will be little, if any, consultation with local residents. We held the meeting because residents deserve to know decisions are being made so they can speak to their local Councillors who will make the decisions. I hope everyone left more informed so they can ensure their voices are heard. We need to build more houses, especially affordable houses, however community consent is important and Labour’s National Planning Policy Framework sees a concerning increase in house building in our communities. It is wrong our rural communities are expected to take the burden of the unmet housing need from Labour’s urban areas by forcing a new town on us, especially when Leicester has capacity and is refusing to meet its housing targets. Yet the Liberal Democrat Council in Harborough agreed to build Leicester’s unmet housing need despite us begging them not to. The Council must engage with, and listen to, residents, and I will continue to fight hard on this. For those who were unable to join, you can rewatch the full meeting below. youtube.com/watch?v=gKggii…

🏠 FRIDAY 8TH NOVEMBER: Public meeting to oppose Government plans to build a new Harborough town The Government has announced plans to build thousands of new homes across the Harborough district, including developments at Stoughton, Houghton on the Hill, Thurnby and Scraptoft. In addition to this, another document drawn up by Harborough District Council lists sites in the broader area around Great Glen, Houghton, Stoughton and Thurnby, saying there is the potential for up to 16,500 new homes. The scale of development in the area is likely to be very large, even if not all of these sites are granted permission. We need to build more houses, especially affordable houses, however community consent is important and Labour’s National Planning Policy Framework sees a concerning increase in house building in our communities. It is wrong that our rural communities are expected to take the burden of the unmet housing need from Labour’s urban areas by forcing a new town on us. Fellow Harborough MP Neil O'Brien and I will be holding a public meeting to hear your views on the Government's plans to build a new town here. 📍 The meeting will be held at 6.30pm on Friday November 8th at St Luke’s Church, Thurnby, LE7 9PN Please do encourage your neighbours, friends and family to attend to hear more about what we know so far, and find out what you can do to oppose this scheme - you can RSVP here: aliciakearns.com/new-harborough…

A broken promise by Harborough Council’s Lib/Lab/Green ruling coalition. I am calling them out for the lack of face-to-face appointments - breaking a key pledge that was made over a year ago. My comments in @HarbMail:

Should customer facing options be more readily available with the district council? 👀 #Echobox=1725464188-1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">harboroughmail.co.uk/news/politics/…

@hfmnews A vindication of the decisions made when @HDC_Cons_Group ran #HDC to continue to invest in upgrading the facilities, and by bringing back management in house.

Don’t forget, council cabinet members are paid an additional allowance by the taxpayer to undertake these additional responsibilities
