One of my classmates sent out his CV last week and got a response from the MD of a company last night, inviting him for an interview by 9 a.m. today.
Around 7 a.m. this morning, the MD called him again and said the interview venue had changed, but the time remained the same.
Luckily for him, the new location was even closer to where he lives.
He got there about 10 minutes before 9 a.m. and was told to wait a little.
By 9:15 a.m., he called the MD just to let him know he had arrived. The man told him to wait another 10 minutes because he was in a meeting.
My classmate waited… and waited.
After over one hour and twenty minutes, he quietly carried his bag and left.
About 15 minutes later, the MD called him and asked where he was.
My classmate replied, “Sir, I already left.”
The man sounded shocked and asked why he would leave after being told to wait.
My classmate replied: “I have other commitments today, sir. I can’t work for someone who doesn’t respect time.”
The MD replied, "That was the interview and you failed".
Was my classmate too impatient?

The downside of AI that people don’t talk about is what the future might look like.
Right now, AI is heavily subsidised, and big corp devs are already spending 2x their monthly salary on AI credits.
Most people no longer want to learn coding from scratch because they feel like AI can do it for them.
But when everyone fully depends on AI and the price goes up, the people who will lose the most will be small companies. They won’t be able to afford it at that cost, and they also won’t find enough junior engineers to hire because people have stopped learning.
This is the best time for you to actually learn core engineering alongside AI.

AI robbed me of the joy of building. I used to be so excited to build. Now I’m like “ Any Joe can do that ”

@OtunbaBrickz What does it mean when there's a grid collapse?
English

you guys love people who would lie to you brazenly. For nigeria to have 24hrs power we need to
- increase our power generation from 13,000MW to 100,000MW (building a 1000MW power station cost $2b multiply by 10, shows we need about $200b)
- Revamp our power distribution infrastructure by building or refurbishing 100+ substations 33MW-130MW (Each cost about $15-45m)
in total the power sector needs atleast $300b of infrastructure investment, even if we dedicate 100% of FG's $20b annual revenue to power infrastructure alone it would take atleast 15years to solve the problem.
so why do you expect Mr. Tegbe to lie and promise you 24hrs power when he knows it wouldnt happen in the short term? the closest we can get to is stabilizing the grid which would stop the Grid collapse and probably give band A clients 24hrs power but access to power for band B and below isnt not guaranteed until we close the 87,000MW power generation gap
Duke of Africa@Allezamani
He should be sacked immediately! Why is the Nigeria senate so incompetent?

real talent is scarce.
then again, there remains an abundance of people who are willing to work and learn if shown the opportunity.
personally, if i was doing any business in Nigeria and intended to compete globally, i would invest in the talent pipeline.
partner with schools if you have to, or fund programs that expose students to the problem spaces you are grappling with. filter for the top of the crop, the self motivated.
if you engage this effort consistently for 3-5 years, you’ll already have some talent density starting to form within your network.
moniepoint is already doing this, same with any serious company because they don’t need to be told the importance of investing in a talent pipeline.
everybody go dey alright.
