Belford V. Lawson (July 9, 1901 - February 23, 1985) was one of the founders of the Washington, DC-based New Negro Alliance (NNA) and the first African American attorney to win a U.S. Supreme Court case, New Negro Alliance v. Sanitary Grocery Company, Inc., in 1938.

Today HEP Construction recognizes Robert Robinson Taylor (1868-1942) The first African American student enrolled at MIT and the first accredited African-Amercian architect, 1892. He was a part of what was possibly the nation's first Black architecture firm, Taylor and Persley.
