My classmates lesson today was on Native American students. I learned that their culture actually pioneered many original forms of medicines, hunting, and general care of our planet. #GCCEDUC

Today watching my classmates presentation on Arab students I learned that often they are use to having divided class among gender so they may have a harder time accepting grades from a female teacher like myself. #GCCEDUC

Today I watched a lesson about homeless students. I think the biggest thing I learned is that a student experiencing homelessness has deteriorating living conditions that affect risk factors of growth and harm to their well-being. #GCCEDUC

I taught a lesson on Latino students and what I found the most informative was learning that even though Latino and Hispanic are often used as interchangeable terms each one has a unique definition. It is important to understand the terms definitions to properly use. #GCCEDUC

After viewing my classmates lesson on Asian students I really learned that there are a lot of differences that Korean, Japenese, Chinese, and Vietnamese students have when it comes to linguistic challenges for each ethnicity. I didn’t realize it was so diverse for each. #GCCEDUC

@chrisemdin After reading your book, which I thought was very eye-opening and insightful, I was wondering if you think one of the 7 C’s to effective teaching is the most important in teaching in the hood for a white teacher or if all are equally as important? #GCCEDU

The recent events in the country are making us start to have serious conversations about racism. It is seen in the educational system. Teachers need to educate ourselves on what we can do to help our students fight against the racism of the system. #GCCEDU americanprogress.org/issues/educati…

“In every state, there is at least 1 town where incomes are far lower than the median nationwide”. That quote is a reminder as a teacher that no matter where I go there willl be students in poverty, so I need to know how to assist them best I can. #GCCEDUC google.com/amp/s/amp.usat…

This article is about misusing immigrant workers and wrongfully deporting them. As a teacher it is important to understand the families my students come from and the struggles they endure because of where they are from, despite them working hard. #GCCEDU google.com/amp/s/amp.usat…

Today I learned about the use of assistive technology to help better support students with SLD’s. I also learned how important it is to support those students that struggle to keep up with their peers so they to do not feel like less capable. #gccedu #teachingeverystudent

Learned about @Newsela today in exceptional learners! It’s a great tool to use to help students read the same content but at the appropriate level for that student. It also is a great way to keep your ELL students involved as you can translate the articles. #GCCedu

Takeaway #3 in Exceptional learners today: Empower students to remember that they are ALREADY somebody before entering your classroom and that they will be a better somebody when they leave the year. They need to know they matter!

Takeaway #2 in Exceptional learners today: We need to seek first to understand rather than be understood to build meaningful connections with our students.

I wish I could have heard from every one of my classmates about their digital portfolios today. However, I was very inspired and impressed by all the ones I did hear about! #gccedu
