The at-risk Salvation Army Citadel has finally been bought by @SheffCouncil from an out-of-town landlord.
But what will the refurbished building actually be used for? 🤔
@SamMGreg investigates, with help from @HHBuildings and @JamesHarrArch ⬇️

** There is an imminent risk @SheffCouncil may demolish the Tudor inspired facade on Haymarket (Wiley &co).
All because of a dispute between landlord and scaffolding company...
Please read below & use supplied emails to ask the council not to do this!!

A Sheffield heritage organisation has dismissed a Sheffield City Council investigation into the demolition of the Market Tavern as a “smokescreen” and said the building had been subject to years of neglect and mismanagement

An ongoing dispute between the landlord and charity tenant @CADS_Sheff leaves the future of Abbeydale Picture House uncertain yet again – while its roof and ceiling continue to deteriorate.

@jimmymumu @ntahall @OldSheffield The council has a long record of failing to use its powers to protect this building. Article 4 was not used, campaigners petitioned for this. A proposed conservation area could have protected this building - @iqbal_mazher summarily prevented that from going forward.
English

@ntahall @OldSheffield @HHBuildings Finally i understand the the situation better. I didn't know about any of those powers. Was there a reason that this wasn't brought into the open? Surely campaigners could have ran with such knowledge

Another unique building lost #Sheffield

English

@jimmymumu @ntahall @OldSheffield No, the council didn't 'fight to save this building'. Viable schemes that included retention were rebuffed. The planning committee (different to 9-5 planning officers) rejected a plan for demolition that planning officers recommended. Govt inspectors over-ruled.

Back in February, I revealed that @SheffCouncil did not tell the truth about the collapse of a historic pub 🏗️
Now the results of an investigation have been partially released that raise more questions over exactly what happened 👇

@HawksleyWendy There just is no obvious public benefit to justify such harm. Most likely the developer knows this too and is hoping to pave the way towards something unpleasant, but not this unpleasant..
English

@HawksleyWendy It's a Grade 2 listed building, and whilst we know it has not been beyond SCC in the past to approve demolition of listed buildings for the sake of 'public benefit' (see jessophospital.org.uk) - the chances of this being approved are extremely remote
