@BradFranklin14 @natabasso I do. I compare it to other things that have repeated exposures THEN an assessment. Sports practice vs game, musical practice vs concert.

@natabasso Honestly, why SHOULD you expect them to do work that isn't graded?!? My students often go far beyond my expectations. Many go the extra mile without any expectation of a grade. Do you *expect* students to complete an ungraded assignment? Why?

When someone says, "If I don't grade it, students won't do it." Agree with them. It's disarming. Then ask, "But were they doing it for the right reasons anyways?" The goal is to get more students engaged in authentic learning, not just task completion.
