My Saturday job when I was a teenager paid minimum wage, ~£3.50/hr. If that had risen in line with inflation it would be ~£5.60 today. Minimum wage for teenagers is £8/hr from next week. Cash-strapped businesses can’t take many on for that cost!
@Ed_Realist @LeahLibresco I mean, it is a term with a specific meaning that you might not be familiar with. It’s someone who typically works fewer hours and with fewer responsibilities than a nanny or au pair, but with more frequency than a standard babysitter.

This fact has been known for some time: "Women who are highly religious also report greater sexual satisfaction than other women. One study found that “for both the wives and husbands, feeling that God was part of their marriage was positively associated with sexual satisfaction.” Another study concluded, “When it comes to relationship quality in heterosexual relationships, ighly religious couples enjoy higher-quality relationships and more sexual satisfaction, compared to less/mixed religious couples and secular couples.” The National Health and Social Life Survey, the most detailed analysis of sexual behavior in America, found that people in intact marriages who worshiped weekly “were most likely to report feeling wanted and needed during intercourse” (94.9 percent). Yet how often does Hollywood or television feature married religious couples enjoying a happy, sexually vibrant relationship? I think the explanation is boringly straightforward- the American, French, and Bolshevik revolutions all got results pretty much in line with the ideology of the revolutionaries. The brutality and authoritarianism of the latter two were built in from the beginning.
I mean, yes, if you have much more compatibility with the single mom than with the virgin you should marry the single mom. This isn’t even Christian beliefs about redemption, it’s just common sense.
I was hanging out yesterday with a group of baby boomer women complaining of how their mothers didn't teach them to cook or keep house, in case anyone was under the impression that this is a new complaint unique to younger generations.
