In 1981, Jimmy Carter walked out of the White House.
He had been the most powerful man in the world.
Leader of the United States. Commander-in-Chief. A man with access to anything, anywhere.
Then suddenly, it was over.
Most former presidents take a different path.
Million-dollar speeches. Book deals. Private jets. A life far removed from ordinary people.
Carter didn’t do that.
He went home.
Back to Plains, Georgia. A small town. No spotlight. No luxury lifestyle.
And then he did something almost no one expected.
He picked up a hammer.
With Habitat for Humanity, Carter started building houses for people who couldn’t afford one. Not posing for photos. Not supervising.
Working.
Sweating under the sun. Carrying wood. Hammering nails. Side by side with volunteers.
Year after year.
Into his 70s.
Into his 80s.
Even into his 90s.
This wasn’t a one-time gesture. He helped build and repair thousands of homes across the world.
The same man who once sat behind the most powerful desk on Earth was now on rooftops, fixing homes for strangers.
No cameras needed.
No applause required.
While others chased wealth after power, Carter chose something else.
Service.
He lived longer than any U.S. president in history. Long enough for people to look back and realize something simple.
Power didn’t define him.
What he did after power did.
And in a world where leaders often take, he kept giving.

The Elgins - Heaven Must Have Sent You (1966)
Written by Holland-Dozier-Holland, the song was initially only a moderate commercial hit but later became a massive Northern Soul favourite which led to it becoming a UK Top 3 hit in 1971. Lovely lead vocal by Saundra Edwards. ❤️❤️
@ronsterd89@kayakendall Met President Carter in Kathmandu Nepal while I was on Embassy Duty in 86. He was as genuine as all the story's say. A true gentleman.
@ronsterd89 He was also one of the worst Presidents of the 20th century. He is the reason for the Iranian problem and had an abysmal economy with double-digit inflation interest rates and unemployment.
Twins play at 11:45 today on @peacock. Joe Ryan starts…could use two good innings from Matt Guerrier today. Maybe even Al Worthington at age 97 could get an out or two.
Trump gleefully told the story of how Queen Camilla saw his Oval Office redecorating and said "wow."
For non-Anglophiles... "Wow" in British slang is similar to "bloody hell"
“Unprecedented destruction”
Majority of U.S. military sites in the Middle East damaged by Iran, CNN investigation reveals.
Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth desperately tried to keep the extent of the damage from the public so people wouldn’t see how badly this was botched. Now the images are coming out and they’re disturbing.
@WhitakerTA_ Check it out... JD Vance is heavily invested in a company that buys farms out of receivership. Isn't that cute?!?! It's almost like this was part of the plan. Destroy the economy so the #EpsteinClass oligarchy can come around and buy it all up for pennies on the dollar!!
It's still insane to me that the King of England came here and insulted Trump to his face, over and over again, and it all just went right over Trump's head.
President Trump shared an AI image on Truth Social Friday night of him, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum wading in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
On this Kentucky Derby day, here’s your reminder that Secretariat was faster than any horse who has ever lived. The year is 1973 and this is his track record run. Untouched for 53 years. The GOAT.
