We are underestimating the downside of our current system when we contemplate change. We need to take some risks to do better. #abimf2013

[NEW PAPER] Hospitalization rates for PE (based on a principal discharge diagnosis of PE) and PE age-adjusted mortality rate (when PE was a primary cause) were stable from 2016 to 2023. However, PE age-adjusted mortality rate when PE was a contributing cause marched upwards at a rate of 4.4% per year. This suggests PE’s increasing role as a complicating factor in patients with substantial comorbidities. We are limited by our ability to accurately ascertain the true number PE related hospitalizations. This is an area for future work. Great to work with a wonderful team including @hmkyale @bbikdeli @MushoodCh @SinaRsh @GregoryPiazza4 @MPfeferman76627 @DJC6998 @mmonrealriete

A Brief Report summarizes estimates for PE-attributable hospitalizations & mortality in the U.S. using @AHRQNews #NIS & @CDCgov #WONDER data. Provides interim estimates, but also reveals limitations in our current surveillance tools. 👇 jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.…

Proud moment. My daughter’s Heartbeats essay @JACCJournals, “Dueling Pursuits: Balancing Motherhood and Medicine,” reflects on pregnancy during med school and the structural barriers women continue to face in medicine. Honest, thoughtful, and important. authors.elsevier.com/a/1mdcc_GjkRPr…

The reintervention difference is driven largely by regurgitation-related valve failure after TAVR. The key lesson: durability assessment must extend beyond traditional endpoint windows. Long-term follow-up is essential, especially as the device is put in younger individuals.

JACC just published 6yr outcomes from the Evolut Low Risk Trial w/additional 7yr follow-up. 1° endpoint (death or disabling stroke): no difference through 6 years. Imp finding: A divergence in reintervention appears beyond year five. @JACCJournals jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.…
