Homes Not Borders is in Baltimore this weekend! Join us at Johns Hopkins Spring Fair at 3401 Charlies St on the Homewood campus on Saturday, April 25 from 11 to 6. We're seeing artisan items, including custom bags from donated ties. Many thanks to the Hopkins community!

Our Sew Successful class is making strawberry purses and hair scrunchies for the Cape St. Clare Strawberry Festival on June 6 from 10 am to 6 pm. Join us June 6 at 1223 River Bay Road, Annapolis MD.

It was a hot but fun day delivering food for refugees this past weekend. We received this note from a recipient, "I would like to sincerely thank you for all the food assistance you have provided to me. I truly appreciate your support during this time."

Love partnering with fantastic organizations like Adventist Community Services to help refugees who have lost SNAP benefits receive culturally-appropriate nonperishable food. They received a food grant and thought of the clients that Homes Not Borders serve.

Special thanks to Prince George's Muslim Association for the gift of fresh produce and other items for Homes Not Borders' Food for Refugees program. Lovely to see our community come together to support refugees who have lost SNAP because of the changes in federal policies.

Sew Successful is Homes Not Borders’ program that combines commercial sewing skills with financial literacy and then connects seamstresses with opportunities to earn income. In just a week, 40 donors have given $10,186 towards our goal of $20,000. homesnotborders.org/donate-money/

We’re so grateful to Penzeys for their generous donation of spices. Spices are expensive, but add flair and familiarity to food. Homes Not Borders is including them in our Food Assistance for Refugees program so families have access to ingredients that are culturally familiar.

HNB's Sew Successful Workforce Development Program moved into the first of our three week, 6-hour trainings on taxes, bookkeeping, and financial literacy. It doesn't look too exciting, but these topics are crucial to helping to set students up as independent contractors.

Three English classes at Eleanor Roosevelt High School spent the afternoon with Homes Not Borders storytellers—listening to personal stories, learning about current refugee policy, and participating in a hands-on refugee loss simulation designed to build understanding.

"Crazy" doesn't even capture the year that Homes Not Borders had in 2025 with all the terrible changes affecting refugees and all immigrants. Through it all, we are proud of our pivots and accomplishments. Onto 2026 and helping more refugees and forced migrants thrive!

First class of Homes Not Borders' Sew Successful done! These 20 students learned how to make makeup bags with zippers, integrating real skills needed for commercial sewing: zipper → side seams → corners → topstitching.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the dedicated Homes Not Borders donors! Last week, we put out an ask for home goods as we were not prepared for this last surge of SIV home set ups. Thanks to your generosity, we now have 152 items totaling $5,910!

Sooo many volunteers came over MLK Jr Day weekend to help out refugees. On Saturday, they helped pack and deliver 2670 pounds of food to 20 refugee families (133 lbs per family!!) whose SNAP had been taken away.

Today kicks off Sew Successful, where refugee women build commercial sewing skills, learn financial literacy and have the chance to be connected with contract sewing opportunities. Even as pathways to America are closed, we believe pathways to the American dream should be open
