A clean home is a dignified home. 🏠 HOME is collecting essential cleaning supplies to help keep our residents’ homes safe, healthy, and welcoming. If you’re able to help, we’re currently in need of items like cleaning sprays, wipes, toilet paper, paper towels, and other household essentials listed in this post. Every donation helps create a space where people can feel comfortable, supported, and at home. If you'd like to contribute, you can learn more here: home.bm

Dead or diseased trees are more than just an eyesore, they’re a liability. 🌳 If a tree is clearly rotting or dead, and the landlord has been notified, the responsibility for removal or damages falls on them. 📲 Tenants, give notice in every way you can: text, call, email, WhatsApp. Once the landlord’s aware, they’re accountable. ✅ But remember: if a healthy tree falls unexpectedly, there may be no liability. Clear communication prevents future disputes. 🎥 Watch the full breakdown. #RentingReady #TenantTips #LandlordLiability #BermudaRentals #HOMEBermuda

HOME 2025 Annual Report now available 📘 HOME has released its 2025 Annual Report, highlighting both achievements and challenges in our mission to end homelessness in Bermuda. At year's end, 1,331 people were identified as experiencing homelessness, representing an estimated 2% of our population. Bermuda’s housing-shortage and cost-of-living crises are combining to exacerbate the increase. Yet we’re proud of our exceptional team, our community partners, and the past year’s wins: • Ended homelessness for 32 people • Prevented 48 new cases • Helped 25 people secure employment • Took on 355 new clients • Partnered with 147 landlords to house individuals • Engaged 42 new strategic donors and more than 450 volunteers The growth in landlord partnerships, from 14 in 2023 to 147 today, shows trust is building. But scale matters. Affordable housing remains the single greatest barrier to lasting change. Our mission remains clear: restore dignity, create stability, and work collectively to ensure homelessness in Bermuda becomes rare, brief, and not repeated. Landlords and tenants — this one’s essential. As leases wrap up, it can get confusing: Can a security deposit be used to cover last month’s rent? 🚫 The short answer: No. Your lease should clearly state that a security deposit is there to protect the landlord against damage, unpaid rent after the tenancy ends, or other fees not to be used like prepaid rent. Clarity in your lease = fewer headaches later on. 🎬 Watch the full explainer now to make sure you're covered and compliant. #RentingReady #KnowYourLease #LandlordTips #TenantRights #HOMEBermuda

Astor House is more than a historic building. It is the birthplace of Matilda Smith Williams, born here in 1873, whose life and generosity helped shape care for older women in Bermuda 🇧🇲 Matilda Smith Williams devoted her life to service, and through her wishes and the efforts of the St Paul AME Church and the Women’s Missionary Society, the Matilda Smith Williams Seniors Residence for women became a reality. Though she did not live to see it open, her vision provided dignity, shelter and care for generations of seniors 💚 Her legacy of compassion and community continues to inspire the work that followed 🌱

Bermuda Is Love recently facilitated a comprehensive three day Landlord and Tenant Workshop in collaboration with HOME, a charity dedicated to ending homelessness in Bermuda. The workshop was designed to strengthen legal understanding around housing rights and responsibilities, reinforcing the principle that access to safe and secure housing is fundamental to human dignity. The sessions provided detailed training on Bermuda’s key housing legislation, including the Landlord and Tenant Act 1974 and the Rent Increases (Domestic Premises) Control Act 1976. Over the course of three days, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on critical issues such as: * The rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants * Lease agreements and legal obligations * Maintenance standards and accountability * Security deposits * Rent control and lawful rent increases * The full legal process for eviction and tenant protections The workshop emphasized practical application of the law, using real-world scenarios to support HOME’s frontline work with individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity. By strengthening legal literacy, the training aimed to better equip advocates to navigate housing challenges and support sustainable outcomes. Bermuda Is Love remains grateful for its continued collaboration with HOME and their unwavering commitment to addressing homelessness in Bermuda. Education, partnership, and advocacy are essential tools in building a more just housing system, because housing is a human right. #BermudaIsLove ❤️ #HOME #HousingIsAHumanRight #EndHomelessness

Not sure how to respond when someone asks for money on the street? 🤔 Panhandling is often a sign of urgent need, not a choice. 💔 While giving directly is personal, the most effective way to help is through long-term support systems or other means besides cash. 🏠 At HOME, we work every day to offer shelter, case management, and housing solutions. Instead of walking past, consider referring someone to services or supporting organisations like HOME that help end homelessness for good. 💚 Scroll through to learn more

Hurricane liability for landlords: let’s clear up a common misunderstanding👇🏾 If your tenant had to stay in a hotel during a hurricane and now wants you to cover the bill, you may not be liable. Most leases and insurance policies outline who is responsible in these situations and in many cases, it’s not the landlord. Don’t panic if you’re getting e-mails, calls, or even legal threats. Instead, review your lease and seek proper advice. We’ve put together this video to walk you through your rights and responsibilities, and help you navigate these moments with clarity and confidence. 🎥 Watch now #RentingReady #LandlordSupport #HurricaneSeason #KnowYourRights #HOMEBermuda
