BREAKING: A jaw-dropping development hits in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal as the Trump administration fires Maurene Comey — the woman who prosecuted Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell — from her job at the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office.
This scandal just went supernova...
Politico reports that "two people familiar with the matter" revealed that Comey was fired on Wednesday. She is the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey. In recent days, Trump has been trying in vain to pin the Epstein files on Mr. Comey as well as Barack Obama.
It's still unclear why Comey was fired but she has worked in the U.S. Attorney's office for close to a decade. Her official title was senior trial counsel and she also helped to prosecute Sean “Diddy” Combs.
It's possible that this is firing is a result of Trump's well-documented antipathy towards her father, but it could also be tied to her prosecution of Epstein and Maxwell. The Epstein issue has proven devastating for Trump in recent weeks. The past two days alone have seen him launching attacks on his own supporters, calling them "stupid" and "foolish" for demanding transparency on Epstein.
The more Trump talks about this issue, the guiltier he seems. Each new headline pours more gasoline onto Elon Musk's allegation that Trump himself is implicated in the files.
It's still unclear whether Comey was fired by interim U.S. attorney, Jay Clayton, or if the termination came from higher up at the Justice Department — possibly from Attorney General Pam Bondi or Trump himself.
Comey was popular at her office and Politico reports that the other prosecutors "rallied around" her and dozens of them escorted her out of the building in solidarity.
