Scott one thing you might check out is “the arb”, The University of Michigan Nichols Arboretum, or "The Arb," is a 123-acre natural area in Ann Arbor featuring trails, gardens (like the historic Peony Garden), and a riverfront along the Huron River. I hiked the trails there once and remember it being very nice.
