@9mmsmg I’d feel odd if a friend gave me something I couldn’t afford myself

I don't have a ton of friends, but the ones I have I consider family. Everyone else I consider a close acquaintance. A good friend is really into watches, but he doesn't have a huge budget. He has a Tudor, which is really nice, but his dream is to have enough for a Rolex Submariner someday. I have a black sub with date that I got in a trade that was heavily favored on my end. I don't wear it so I thought it'd be a cool 40th birthday present. Here's where I'm panicking though. Every single time I've given someone a remotely extravagant gift, our relationship ends horribly after. Every time, something happens and we simply can't reconcile. It's always someone I value too. Now im hyper paranoid that I have some weird gift curse. I swear, if it ever happens again I'm going to be the cheapest person on the planet. I'm going to take them to McDonald's for their birthday and write "Happy birthday!" on a happy meal box.

@HarrisonHSmith They pushed it knowing it would be wildly unpopular and wanted to leave Trump holding the bag. Perhaps he should listen to his voters instead of these types.

Note that the Senate hasn’t even gone on recess. If they did, that means President Trump would get to make recess appointments. In other words, the Senate did nothing, went on break, and wouldn’t even give Trump the dignity of making recess appointments so the executive could actually get stuff done.
Andrew Kolvet@AndrewKolvet

It’s absolutely shocking and insane that the Senate thinks it’s acceptable to go on recess until April 13 when a federal agency of 260,000 has not been funded. This is waning days of the Republic type malfeasance. Force these geriatrics to fly back to DC and do the job. You simply do not leave until the job is done. We expect more from basically every other profession in this country. Why does Congress get rewarded for failing to do basic job requirements?

@HSTradingCo I'm not sure yet. I might keep the MOLLE II pack on it for now, maybe look for a multicam MOLLE II main pack. The ones on eBay for cheap are UCP. Or I might rig up a medium ALICE and some way to strap other gear below the main pack.

@WomanDefiner I don't think they have many viable options for a ground invasion without considerable casualties. For what? Who benefits? Not me and my family.

I think if we go boots on the ground its a huge mistake. Maybe I'm wrong and it goes swimmingly but my experience with things like this is it cost Americans lives and quickly becomes a political liability.

You don’t see dalmations too much these days. They were everywhere in media. It was pretty common to see them at dog parks/being walked. Now I haven’t seen one in probably a decade. Where the hell did they all go

@treblewoe Look at the bright side, as the world's largest producer of crude, it would only take about 10 years to pay off the national debt with oil profits at $1,000 a barrel.

@WEschenbach With all due respect, the king of Tonga is likely Polynesian, and so making any claims about him is nothing but racism and bigotry and as a white man, you shouldn't be speaking about the Polynesian people as a whole. Very Eurocentric of you! Fuck Drumpf, they don't even compare!

The first time I worked in Tonga, when I got there, they were about to hang a murderer. But then the King of Tonga said "Nope, I'm commuting his sentence to life imprisonment". I'm sure the man breathed a huge sigh of relief. The next week, the King went off to celebrate the birthday of the Sultan of Brunei. When he got back, he must have had a hangover or something, because he said, "Remember the man whose sentence I commuted? Reinstitute the death penalty!" The very next day, the man was hanged. And on that day, I learned about the power of a real King … Now, do you think that the King of Tonga would have allowed a "No Kings" protest? w.
