NIA SPL COURT SENTENCES KEY ACCUSED IN PAKISTANI TALIBAN LINKED TERROR RADICALISATION CASE TO 7 YEARS RI   New Delhi, 19th May 2026 A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has convicted and sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) a key accused in a terror radicalisation and recruitment case linked with the proscribed Taliban and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist organisations.   The NIA special court in Bengaluru, Karnataka, has also imposed a fine of Rs.63,000 on Maharashtra resident Hamraz Worshid Shaikh, who pleaded guilty during the trial that began in April 2026.   The accused has been convicted under various sections of IPC and UA (P) Act in the case RC-04/2023/NIA/DLI (TTP Case), which was registered in April 2023. In October 2023, NIA had chargesheeted Hamraz and another accused, identified as Mohammad Arif, against whom trial is continuing.   NIA investigation in the case had revealed that Hamraz was himself radicalised into Taliban and TTP ideology through Pakistani and Afghan contacts during his stay in Saudi Arabia between 2019 to 2022. The probe had further identified an online handler known as "Hanzala", who was involved in radicalisation through an Instagram account – "Kashmir Pages".   On his return to India, Hamraz had conspired with co-accused Arif to identify and recruit vulnerable youth by propagating the terror ideology of Taliban and TTP. The duo had also formed a terrorist gang with the objective of joining TTP in Afghanistan to wage Jihad and war against India.

Sopore Police in Kashmir Attaches Immovable Property of UAPA Accused Operating as Terror Handler from Pakistan/Pakistan Occupied Kashmir Sopore, May 14, 2026: In continuation of its sustained crackdown on the terror ecosystem, Sopore Police has attached an immovable property comprising land measuring 10 Marlas, valued at approximately ₹20 Lakhs, situated at Kehnusa, Bandipora, *belonging to an accused involved in terror-related activities and presently operating as a terror handler from Pakistan/Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).* The property has been attached in connection with *Case FIR No. 307/2023 registered at Police Station Sopore under Sections 13, 18, 18B, 20, 23, 38, 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, besides Sections 7/25 Arms Act and 4/5 Explosive Substances Act.* The accused has been identified as: *Majid Ahmad Sofi @ Bisati, S/O Ali Mohammad Sofi, R/O New Colony Sopore.* Investigations have revealed that the accused is presently *operating from Pakistan/PoK as a terror handler affiliated with the banned terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen* and has been actively involved in facilitating and orchestrating terrorist activities in Kashmir Valley. The attachment proceedings were carried out by Sopore Police in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, concerned Revenue officials, and independent witnesses after following due legal procedure under law. *Sopore Police remains committed to dismantling the financial, logistical and support networks of terrorist organisations.* Attachment of properties linked with terror accused forms part of a broader strategy aimed at choking terror funding, disrupting the terror ecosystem and deterring individuals from engaging in unlawful and anti-national activities. *Strict action under law shall continue against all individuals involved in terrorism, terror financing, harbouring or providing any form of support to terrorist organisations.* The general public is advised to remain vigilant and stay away from such anti-national elements.
