In the Omura region in particular, the Converts there knew no more than some of the basic catechism necessary for Baptism. They had access to neither confession nor the Eucharist. Whatever was happening in those baptisms, sustained doctrinal formation clearly wasn't one of them. It became such a big problem that the Jesuit visitor Allesandro Valignano was very disappointed with the quality of the Converts and even downright said that they were no better than heathens.
