£5 million from a billionaire was a pay-off for delivering Brexit, Farage says so himself. While the vast majority of people in this country are worse off because of Brexit. Farage now says his £5mn gift was a reward for Brexit theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

This demand is morally just, and it it is growing in support. Slavery reparations must be top of Commonwealth's agenda, says former Caribbean leader theguardian.com/world/2026/may…

There is little substantially new in this speech. Certainly there is nothing to transform the country, or to reverse Labour's fortunes. It is hard to believe Labour MPs will believe this is the radical re-set needed, but it is now down to their judgement. bbc.co.uk/news/live/c1m2…

Any change of leader of the Labour party needs to be part of a complete change of direction. It is delusional to believe a political crisis is a personnel issue. Keir Starmer's fate is out of his own hands thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Gains for the right and the far right are frequently followed by an upsurge in racist abuse and attacks. Unfortunately, people's fears are based on experience. Minority groups brace for surge in racism after Reform election gains theguardian.com/politics/2026/…

Misan Harriman is a highly respected and influential Black man. He is being attacked by the Telegraph with smears. His crime is to point out that the Golders Green attacker also attacked a Muslim man. I stand with Misan.

There is a myth, very widely held in Labour, that we achieved an huge popular victory in 2024 under Starmer. In fact we won 9.7 million votes, over 3 million fewer than in 2017 and half a million less than the 'disastrous' 2019 poll. We won because the Tories imploded in 2024.

There is no denying that these election results are going to be very bad for Labour. Yes, Keir Starmer is very unpopular. But it is the policies that drive that unpopularity. Simply changing the leader without changing the policies will not avert disaster in 2029.

Higher prices for food, higher energy bills, cancelled flights and shortages, all coming our way because of the Iran War. The US and Israel started it. The government should be working to end it. Four in five Britons expect Iran war will raise food prices theguardian.com/business/2026/…

Government policy is not 'smashing the gangs' either of people smuggling or trafficking of modern slaves. In fact, the clampdown on people seeking asylum has opened up new possibilities for the gangs. Modern slavery is at a record and likely to increase theguardian.com/world/2026/may…

This is an important demand. Well done to Unison for making it.

BREAKING: UNISON has urged the UK 🇬🇧 government to reform the current visa sponsorship system, calling for sponsorship powers to be taken away from individual employers and replaced with a sector-wide model. Speaking during its Fair Visa campaign sensitisation programme, the union’s General Secretary, Andrea Egan, said the existing system gives employers excessive control, leaving many workers, especially migrants exposed to exploitation, job insecurity, and restricted career movement. Under current rules, a worker’s immigration status is often tied to a single employer, limiting their ability to switch jobs or raise concerns about poor conditions. UNISON is proposing a centralised, sector-based sponsorship system that would allow workers to move more freely within their field. The union argues this approach would promote fairness, reduce abuse, and help tackle staffing shortages particularly across essential services like healthcare and social care. The call comes as pressure mounts on the government to reform immigration and labour policies in a way that balances economic demand with stronger worker protections. According to UNISON, a sector-wide system could strengthen the labour market while ensuring greater security and dignity for workers. The government has not yet issued a formal response, but the proposal is expected to fuel further debate around immigration policy, labour rights, and the future of workforce sponsorship in the UK 🇬🇧. #UNISON #UKPolitics #VisaReform #MigrantWorkers
