i don’t remember the inspiration but built a small digital tribute to qaraami, cassette culture, and classical somali music as you hover over each tape with an artist name, an oud/kaban sound plays featuring the artists that shaped Somali music forever turn sound on

Last month I visited Somaliland — an unrecognised country that could reshape Africa and the Middle East Its location in one of the world’s most contested geopolitical arenas has thrust its 35 year battle for recognition into the spotlight 🧵 @thetimes thetimes.com/world/africa/a…

I go back to this song often. Please give it a listen. Young SNM fighters understood how evil, and powerful, Somalian faqash were. The odds did not look great.. And yet they defiantly sang: "Faqash wey tegeysaa". Wish I can go back and tell them: FAQASH TAGTEY!

6 April is a monumental day in African history. One of the continent’s greatest liberation movements was born on this day. Against overwhelming odds, they fought, freed their people, and restored their country. Today is a reminder: change is never given. SNM hanoolaato 🔥

People assume posts like this are meant to promote a positive image of #Somaliland but they actually do the opposite. When ordinary moments like shopping peacefully are treated as something remarkable, it suggests that such normalcy isn’t expected.

Foreign women and their children are freely shopping in the capital city of Hargeisa, embracing and wearing traditional Somaliland women’s clothing. This reflects the safety, hospitality, and cultural pride of Somaliland truly an amazing country.

Imagine if Iran bombed and destroyed the Golden Gate Bridge in California, what would you call it? TERRORISTS The U.S bombed and destroyed the highest bridge in Iran, the B1 bridge, why do you call it “PEACE”? Bombing a bridge is a war crime under international humanitarian law
