All this talk of Vijay having not spoken out yet, simultaneously so many DMK spokespersons saying "the governor may not be incorrect in wanting to check if a party has a majority". Sure, Vijay hasn't spoken out, but DMK speaking quite clearly.

For the legal whizzos amongst “The Backstabbers” who are dishing unsolicited legal advice. The Governor is well within his powers to seek letters of support from the leader of the Single Largest party to prove his majority. The SC said so in the Rameshwar Prasad case.

@iamdatemike And our society (at least for the common man), treats an FIR as the final declaration of guilt, rather than it just being the first step in a long process. Not only is the process a punishment, initiating it itself is one.

@iamdatemike I agree, my opinion is not perfect. I don't think CSR is the best way forward either, but considering the way police authorities often abuse power, what we need is structural reform from the ground up, and not mechanical registration of FIRs like you suggested.

If TVK - finishes installing cctv cameras in all police stations - removes perpetual restrictions under the madras city police act - works on police reform - sets up a functional structure to protect couples of inter-caste marriages It will be a step in the right direction

@iamdatemike Filing an FIR would be a fair process if the entire criminal process was fairly exercised. There are cases where undertrial prisoners are rotting cos of the same fair process. When the authorities don't bother to even follow Arnesh Kumar, filing an FIR is hardly a fair process.

@iamdatemike An FIR doesn't guarantee a fair investigation, because ultimately, the mechanism exercising that power is draconian. If the police mechanism was perfect, then yes, file the FIR, but that's not the reality.

@iamdatemike The FIR also entitles the police to arrest the accused, harass them at will, can lead to travel restrictions, job loss, loss of reputation, etc. It's not like the police file the chargesheet within 60, 90 days either.

@iamdatemike I disagree with the first part, I don't think the police should register FIRs mechanically, especially considering how draconian the police in our state already are. This CSR giving out business itself is an arm twisting tactic on so many occasions.

This whole reluctance to file an FIR business and trying to appease parties with a CSR has to go. Sending all women to the all woman station for all issues also has to go. Ready to draw list of grievances and will give it to my area candidate once they took office.

There's talk of TVK candidates having won only because of Vijay's star power. In that case, he could have appeased any particular religion, caste or community in choosing his candidates. That he didn't, and hearing the stories of so many of these candidates is really heartwarming

Happy to be proven wrong, but this "Deepathoon" appears to be the creation of the Writ Court. If the "Deepathoon" is in fact a structure having religious significance, the same should be proved before a Trial Court by leading evidence and not given legal credence through a Writ.
