Press Statement. THREAT TO VIOLENCE: TINUBU AND APC, NOT MAKINDE, ARE TO BLAME The All Progressives Congress and many of its members serving in government have issued a plethora of statements since the successful hosting of the national summit of opposition political parties at Ibadan on Saturday, 25th April, 2026. One of their numerous pain points arising therefrom is the historical recollection of ‘wetie’ - a sad descent into uncontrollable violence, caused by the political greed of the then ruling party and its concomitant asphyxiation of the opposition. This recollection was embedded in the speech of the host, Governor Oluseyi Makinde. The federal government and the APC have described that recollection as a call to violence and have since been reacting with the panic of an animal cornered by its own misdeeds. In response, we state as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. The use of history in the way and manner done by Governor Makinde in the said speech served as a caution and advisory to the Federal Government, the APC, and other national institutions, of the unmitigated crisis that their actions and inactions can result in. Only a guilty aggressor can interpret it to mean a threat or call to violence. It is common knowledge that those who do not learn from history are doomed by it. Governor Makinde offered a sobering reminder that when insatiable political greed and avarice replace patriotism and good governance, and are compounded by the accumulated anger and frustrations of the citizenry, the resultant conflagration will be of immeasurable proportion. This again is a fact that history bears witness to. The events that led to the sad incident of 'wetie' and the current happenings within the political space, as orchestrated by the APC, are not just similar but identical in both intent and execution. To continue doing the same thing while expecting a different result is the very definition of political recklessness. When pushed to the wall, people have no other direction to go but forward, against the wall itself. The current slide into elected totalitarianism has been entirely engineered by the APC and the Federal Government. They cannot decry the effect while remaining willfully blind to the cause and to their own culpability in it. When the APC was in opposition, they did not merely threaten violence, they openly promised to make the country ungovernable, with the infamous baboon and blood narrative. They therefore lack any moral capacity to complain about a mere historical recollection by a sitting governor. As long as the targeted state-sponsored decimation of the opposition continues, the opposition parties will explore increasingly potent strategies, entirely within the ambit of the law, to prevent the enthronement of a one-party state under an elected dictator. The APC should be ashamed of their comprehensive failure in both governance and politics, and their resort to the crude tactics of inducement, intimidation and persecution of opposition leaders. Finally, the responsibility for any violence in the build-up to or immediately after the 2027 elections lies squarely at the doors of the Federal Government, the All Progressives Congress, INEC, and every national institution charged with the defence of democracy. The citizens know the aggressors from the victims, and the APC's attempt to play victim has failed woefully. Earlier this morning, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, appeared on Channels TV. He spoke on various national issues, focusing especially on the constriction of political space by the APC-led government and the “Ibadan Declaration”. Here is an excerpt. “So, there will be Option A and there will be Option B. I must state that we must even thank the APC, because it took their constriction of the political space to make 'Ibadan' happen. If all the parties had been without problems, Ibadan would not have occurred. If the Labour Party had no crisis, the PDP had no crisis, the ADC had no crisis—if all other parties were stable and people did not see that the process was being engineered to create a one-party state—I am certain that Ibadan would not have happened. Therefore, the APC must understand that Ibadan is a direct response to their activities. I can tell you that the period of 'mergers' is over, as Jeff said. We don't have a timeline for a merger, but whatever the understanding is... this is political engineering. Incidentally, the day we met in Ibadan was the same day the biggest civil engineering feat in history occurred: the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway, which linked the Great Lakes and the Atlantic. We weren't just referring to history negatively; we were also referring to history positively. Thus, I can tell you that the biggest political engineering experience of this Fourth Republic is about to be birthed."

Press Release April 30, 2026 Assumption of National Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) @OfficialPDPNig by the Board of Trustees (BoT). It is with the utmost sense of duty and responsibility that the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assumes leadership of our great party today, Thursday, 30th April, 2026 pursuant to the empowering provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (As amended in 2017). This constitutional intervention of the BoT is so as not to allow any leadership vacuum at the national level of our party following judgment of the Supreme Court. Sadly, the Supreme Court, today delivered an unpleasant judgment against our party in which it pronounced an invalidation of the 15th to 16th November 2025 National Convention of the PDP held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of our Party. While the Supreme Court invalidated the Ibadan Convention, it also in a unanimous decision of the five justices on the panel, upheld the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Hon. Umar Bature, Kamaldeen Ajibade as National Secretary, National Organizing Secretary and National Legal Adviser respectively from the Party. The implication of today’s judgment by the Supreme Court is that all actions taken by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Hon. Umar Bature and Barr. Kamaldeen Ajibade including the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman, the composition of the National Caretaker Working Committee and the conduct and outcome of the March 29th, 2026 Convention in Abuja are illegal, null and ab initio void. The consequential invalidation of both the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led as well as the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led Working Committees directly places the statutory onus of leadership of our great party on the shoulders of the Board of Trustees (BoT) as the Second Highest Organ of the Party, pursuant to the express and unambiguous provision of Section 32 (5) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017). Against this backdrop, the BoT hereby immediately assumes responsibility of the national working leadership of the PDP as immediate constitutional remedial steps to foster genuine reconciliation, salvage, stabilize and return the party to good political health. In the light of the foregoing an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), pursuant to the provisions of Section 31 of the Constitution of the PDP will be summoned to, among other things, appoint an Interim National Working Committee to take charge of the National Secretariat of our Party and pilot the affairs of the Party at the national level so as to meet all the timeline in the Electoral Act, 2026 and ensure that the PDP fields candidates and also emerged victorious in all elective positions in the 2027 general elections. Consequently, all staff of the PDP are hereby directed to resume at the National Secretariat of the Party under the leadership of the BoT ahead of the appointment of the Interim National Working Committee. The BoT commends the courage, effort and resilience of our governors, Governor Bala Mohammed and Governor Seyi Makinde, the National Assembly caucus, the National Ex-officios, the Forum of PDP State Chairmen and State chapters, the Youth and Women Wings and other organs and bodies in the PDP for standing strong for the party at this trying time. The BoT therefore calls on all leaders and members of the party to jettison all personal and group interests and come together as one family in the overall interest of our Party, democracy and the wellbeing of millions of Nigerians whose hope are anchored on the PDP. The PDP has suffered enough; the painful victims of this unfortunate episode is the Nigerian people. The time has therefore come for us to make sacrifices, sheathe our swords and embrace genuine reconciliations for lasting peace and chart a new course for our party. Signed: Senator Adolphus Wabara, Ph.D Chairman, BoT

Supreme Court Judgment Obliterated the Sam Anyanwu Faction - Maduabuchi The Supreme Court judgment settled the factionalistion in the PDP conclusively. I don’t know why there is so much frenzy over the Ibadan convention. The convention is not what took people to court. What instigated the court proceedings was the need to determine the authentic leaders of the PDP. The Ibadan convention is simply tangential to the matter. Everything Sam Anyanwu has done on behalf of the party was invalidated, including the March 12 convention because he had been expelled from the party leaving the Turaki faction as the only recognised faction. Press Statement. @OfficialPDPNig Leadership: A Dangerous Bend Today, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, through a five-man panel presided over by Justice Mohammed Garba, in a split decision (3–2), upheld the judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court, wherein the convention held in Ibadan was nullified. The three Justices (Chioma Nwosu-Iheme, Stephen Adah, and Garba) hinged their judgments on the disrespect of a valid, subsisting judgment of the Federal High Court and therefore held that, being in contempt, the appellants cannot be accommodated in the apex court, thereby dismissing the appeal. However, the minority judgments by Justices Haruna Tsammani and Abubakar Umar held that the two appeals emanate from matters which are internal affairs of the PDP and are therefore non-justiciable. The case at the FHC was not challenging any act or decision of any federal government agency but the leadership contest of the party, and therefore not justiciable. Furthermore, they held that it is not the duty of the court to fish out matters to execute the case for the respondent, because the majority judgment undertook the duty of raising matters suo motu without calling on the parties to address them. This is against the position of the apex court, wherein parties must be given the opportunity to address the court on matters raised suo motu. With this split judgment, which also upheld the Court of Appeal’s suspension of Ajibade, SAN, Anyanwu, and others, this effectively leaves the PDP as a party without a defined leadership. To this end, we are certain that the existing organs of the party will take the necessary steps to salvage the party and confer leadership on it going forward. This leads the vehicle of our party towards a dangerous bend, which, if not carefully navigated, may not only affect the party but also multi-party democracy in our country. OUR PARTY MUST NOT DIE …being the position of Governors and critical Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party. @OfficialPDPNig As genuine leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, we have received the Judgment of the Supreme Court delivered through a panel of Justices headed by Justice Mohammed Garba. The judgement which dismissed the appeal filed by Turaki’s NWC against the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which nullified the Elective National Convention of the Party held at Ibadan November, 2025, also dismissed the cross appeals by Sen. Sam Anyanwu and his co-travellers seeking to upturn the judgment of the Court of Appeal which upheld the suspension of A.K. Ajibade San, Sen. Sam Anyanwu and others. The interpretation of this judgement clearly leaves the party without any recognised leadership, as both groups previously laying claims to the leadership have been divested of al interests by this judgement. We cannot therefore in good conscience allow the party to become rudderless and without direction. We have noted the take-over of leadership of the party by the authentic Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sen. Adolphus Wabara- a move we are not opposed to. This body, serving as the conscience of the party must immediately convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party, to take decisions as to the leadership of the party and undertake steps preparatory to activities for candidates’ selection towards 2027 general elections. We urge all our members to remain steadfast, trusting that we will take decisions in the best interest of the survival of our party, not as addendum of the All Progressives Congress. Democracy thrives when there is a vibrant and capable opposition, which aligns with the wishes and interest of the people, not with the government. Soonest, we will, after extensive consultations with the BOT and other critical stakeholders, announce the action plan, for the survival of our party. We can reiterate, that by God’s grace, our party will not die, it will not be handed over to those who want to hold it down for the APC, or those who want to trade and negotiate with it. Like the phoenix, we will surely rise again. PDP! Read by His Excellency, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Secretary of the Board of Trustees for and on behalf of the PDP Governors Forum, BOT members, Members of National Executive Committee, Members of National Caucus, Members of PDP Caucus in the National Assembly, former Ministers, State Chairmen and other stakeholders who attended the emergency stakeholders meeting.

Today, with the aim of safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy, we hosted a national summit that brought together opposition political party leaders, members of civil society and other relevant stakeholders. As I said in my welcome remarks, democracy is not defined by the success of one party. It is defined by the existence of real alternatives, by the ability of citizens to choose, and by the confidence that those choices matter. So, let me once again, thank everyone who participated in our deliberations and ensured that the Ibadan Declaration 2026 was birthed. Read my welcome address here seyimakinde.com/national-summi…

IBADAN DECLARATION Communiqué issued at the end of Opposition Political Parties National Summit held on Saturday April 25, 2026 in Ibadan, Oyo State. Participating Opposition Parties in Nigeria, after an extensive deliberation on the collective threats that we face and the existential challenges facing our country under the stranglehold of the oppressive and anti-democratic All Progressives Congress (APC) and given the need for urgent, collective action to rescue our nation and the destiny of over 200 million compatriots, hereby resolve as follows: 1. That we shall resist all machinations by the APC to foist a one-party State on Nigeria and fight for the survival of multi-party democracy in our country. 2. That despite the onslaughts and manoeuvrings of the ruling party, the APC to impose President Bola Tinubu as the sole Presidential candidate in 2027; we shall field candidates and contest the 2027 Presidential and other elections. 3. That we shall work towards fielding one Presidential Candidate for the 2027 elections, which shall be agreed and supported by all participating opposition parties to rescue our nation and her long suffering masses. 4. That the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, having shown bias and partisanship in favour of the ruling APC, should not conduct the 2027 general elections as Nigerians across board have lost confidence in him and his capacity to guarantee the required neutrality to deliver free, fair, transparent and credible elections. His continuous stay in office is vexatious and capable of triggering wide spread crisis in our nation. 5. That the National Assembly should immediately review the Electoral Act, 2026 to remove all sections that threaten the sanctity and integrity of the elections and run counter to constitutional provisions. 6. That all leading politicians that are being detained or harassed on bailable offfences be released with immediate effect and allowed to exercise their fundamental rights of participation and inclusivity as Nigerians. 7. That we consider the recent guidelines released by the INEC as obstacles, deliberately engineered to impose conditions and deadlines on the opposition parties. We therefore demand that INEC extends the deadline for primaries till the end of July, 2026. 8. The Summit commends Nigerians for their resilience and readiness to work with Opposition Parties to free our nation from State capture. 9. The National summit of Opposition Political Parties thank the Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State for hosting the epochal event. SIGNED: Chairmen of Participating Opposition Parties.

MAY THIS MOMENT NOT PASS US BY …being the address of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, at the National Summit of Opposition Political Parties holding at Ibadan on Saturday, April 25, 2026. No moment in our political history since independence best exemplifies Shakespeare’s immortal proclamation in Julius Caesar, that “There is a tide in the aFairs of men which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat, and we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures.” We are at the cusp of history-the political stage is set, the dramatis personae are all ready, and time is passing by very quickly. But one thing is pending, which the world earnestly awaits, our action. This is so important that even our inaction or refusal to act will be interpreted and recorded for us by history as an action. Never in our democratic history have we faced the asphyxiation of the opposition as we are currently witnessing, and never have we danced so carelessly on the brink of becoming a one-party state. The current embattled condition of the opposition in our country is the result of state-engineered crises tactically deployed to any political party with the prospect of putting up a challenge to the lacklustre-performing APC-led Federal Government. We are gathered today with personal evidence of this onslaught. We are not speaking from hearsay or guesswork, but from concrete lived experience, where renegade party members have been stupendously empowered to create problems within the party and ultimately sue the party, leaving it vulnerable. National institutions that were created as guardrails on the express lane of electoral democracy have all been captured by this administration, sending the nation very close to the destination of self-help. Today, the perception of these critical institutions is at its lowest ebb-a point of almost no recovery. The trust deficit has not only increased but has reached historic levels. Dear friends, there is an urgent need for action. This moment calls for deliberate action in defence of democracy; action in defence of our citizenship; action in defence of principle and honour. Yes, this moment demands our collective action, which makes this national summit most important and apt. We must deploy knowledge, tact, and strategy to undertake the onerous but doable task of dislodging the APC government in the interest of the survival of democracy and the emancipation of our citizens. I am sure that by now, all of us have reached a consensus ad idem on the need to act, and expeditiously too. So I will very quickly leave us with questions, the answers to which should point us in the right direction of action: 1. What if our parties are “taken” from us and given to their cronies, as they have been boasting? 1. What if the Federal Government continues to double down on the constriction of the political space against the opposition? 1. What if the persecution of opposition leaders does not abate? 2. What if the ruling party, government, INEC, and other national institutions have concluded plans to make the country a one-party state? The list of “what-ifs” is endless, and you can add yours. My top-of-the-mind solution is the activation of a framework, which can be called the Ibadan Accord or Ibadan declaration, which will be a joint opposition platform where the defence of democracy will be the paramount interest. We must consider the parable of the single stick and the bunch of sticks. Breaking a single stick is not a challenge even to a child, but when it is a bunch, it is a challenge even to the most powerful.
