when my daughter started kindergarten, there was a form asking who should be contacted first in case of an emergency. i put her dad’s name. he works closer to the school, has a more flexible schedule, and actually answers his phone. two weeks later, i got a call at work, missed it, of course, then another, and another. when i finally stepped out of a meeting and called back, they said, “we couldn’t reach you.” i asked if they’d tried her dad. there was a pause, then, “oh… we usually call mom first.” i didn’t argue. i just thought about how systems don’t always need rules to keep doing the same thing over and over.

@mollyfleck Honestly it's not most playgrounds. It's some, usually in Queensland. I totally agree that sun protection should be mandatory. To be Sun Smart AND basic heat safety

Too many playground designers in the US fail to consider the sun at all. I appreciated that in Australia, most playgrounds have some sort of shade built in. None of my local playgrounds in Chicago have any sun protection.

@Its_Fenni Less is more. This is not peanut butter, or jam. It's powerful stuff. It's not uncommon for a jar to last for many years. Toast: White bread. Well toasted. Butter: Lots. Don't use margarine, use butter. Vegemite: A small scrape to lightly coat the toast. Start at Level 2.
