The Hierarchy of Sexual Sin in Egypt Egypt has awakened to the terrible crime of four school employees who sexually molested little boys inside a school. People are asking the question: How could they all agree on this crime? In other words, how did they admit to each other that they are pedophiles? The short answer is: they are not necessarily pedophiles. In Egypt, a very misogynistic and sexually oppressed country, the only sex that is truly frowned upon is extramarital sex by a female and "passive" sex by a male. Any other form of sex is not rejected to the same degree. So, perhaps one admitted he was doing this to the children, and the others simply joined in. Yes, admitting to having sex with children - while still very rejected by Egyptian society - is ironically viewed as less severe than admitting to taking the passive role during sex for example. Gay non-Egyptians who visit Egypt often say they are surprised at the number of "straight" Egyptians who hook up with them, yet insist they are not gay. Egypt is severely repressed when it comes to sex or even intimacy. In Egypt, it is culturally more accepted to see a father slam his daughter’s head against a wall than to see a husband lip kissing his wife on the street. I am talking about real-life situations here. A man caught on CCTV slamming a girl’s head against a wall was released from police custody after it was revealed he was her father punishing her for going out without permission. Meanwhile, if you kissed your wife on the lips on a street in Cairo, you would most likely be charged with "an indecent act in a public space." Of course, you would never be charged if you were a tourist; these charges are reserved for Egyptians only. I am not saying that child sex offenses do not happen in societies with more sexual freedom, of course they do, but I would not be surprised if the rate is much higher in repressed societies such as Egypt.
