I don’t think Team USA didn’t care. They were businesslike in their demeanor, sure. I think the narrative is that it’s hard for USA fans to care as much as other countries because their fandom lies with their MLB teams whereas other countries’ fans only have their national teams.

@patspulpit Some people have to understand that it can’t involve 2026 picks, because the deal CAN’T be finalized until after June 1. That being said, 2nd in 2027, 4th in 2028. Too much risk to give up big draft capital.

This is Mar. 12, 2026 speculation here, I fully admit, but I would not be surprised if long-term plan is pairing him with Zacha and Pastrnak. Putting Hagens in middle but allowing player like Zacha to take some draws, take center pressure off him if matchup dictates it.

@plane_pats I’d still go after Brian Thomas Jr. No fan of an AJ Brown deal, cap hit, draft capital and mental instability. Thomas is still CHEAP for a couple years, rather risk the draft capital on him.

@JumboHart @WEEIAfternoons When you consider assets given up, the yearly cap hit and the fact he is mentally unstable, Brown could be a team killer. I’d give up the assets for Thomas, he is still cheap for a couple years AND try to bring back Diggs.
