First full day of my holiday in Catania. Seven hours of legal work, conference calls, and more media enquiries than I had planned for a holiday. But there was still time to wander this beautiful city, take a few photographs, and enjoy a cheeky Godfather and bruschette at “The Glory Hole” on Via Gemmellaro before dinner. Life is sweet.

@HallDavidM It’s Anthropic - a different platform from Open Ai. In many respects I think it’s better, possibly the best, though I use ChatGPT more for everyday stuff, in part as it knows me so well now.

Using AI: a few important tips I increasingly use AI (mainly ChatGPT and Claude, sometimes Gemini) for all sorts of things: recipes, travel itineraries, technical questions, creative work and even some legal tasks. I find it both enormously useful at times and dangerously unreliable at others. The main risks are hallucinations and a tendency to agree with, flatter or validate the user’s assumptions rather than challenge them. Here is a simple approach that has helped me: 1. Use whichever AI model you prefer. 2. For anything important, ask a second model to criticise the first answer or identify its weakest assumptions. 3. Then check the primary source yourself whenever it matters. Point 3 is by far the most important.
