@LouisEverett1 @BearWithOneEar Yes everything has to be done ‘well’ and the ‘why’ always needs careful consideration. ‘Something works everywhere’ as they say. The hope that Twitter continues to make better practitioners of us all remains. Thanks for the discussion! 🙌

@HallHistoryGuy @BearWithOneEar Also an assumption here that role play ‘engages’? Is it not just as likely to put some pupils off? History is fascinating. IME familiar, high-impact methods are better at fostering intrinsic motivation & interest.

I would dissuade from using historical simulations for many reasons. For any teaching method ask why? Curriculum time is finite, every minute counts! Why would you use this time on a method that risks creating misconceptions rather than focusing on the high impact?

@LouisEverett1 @BearWithOneEar Agreed.ButTwitter can feel like echo chamber sometimes. According to the beliefs of many (not you specifically) there is only one - very scientific route - way to teach. The best lessons are taught with expertise - yes - but also with passion and enthusiasm. Teaching is an art.

@HallHistoryGuy @BearWithOneEar 1. I’m not saying that my aim is to create academic historians. I want them to finish KS3 reading, writing & with broad knowledge base. 2. This was never an attack on an individual. We have to be able to debate pedagogy without risk of offence for our pupils.

@MrJCNewton I’ve been given the honour too. Any tips from the community? I planned to visit lots of schools but... maybe not now.

I’ve found myself in a new role as the Academy’s Research Lead (🎉). Can anyone connect me to others doing the same thing? 👀

This is a few days late but I’d like to thank the @UCL_Holocaust team for some enlightening and thought-provoking discussions last Friday. A must for all History teachers I’d say! 🙌

Schools quite rightly do not let children have holidays in term time when it is cheaper to go. It's an insult to them if we just play games with children in last week. Finishing strong is fairer and more respectful.

It’s activities week so I’m getting students on Ancestry to dig up their family tree. This could either go really well or really badly! 🤞

Year 6 are in today. Is there a better way to inspire a love of History than taking them outside for some drill and combat training? Nah didn’t think so. #lovehistory

Perhaps one of the better things Edexcel introduced in 2016 - harrowing but Y10 seem fascinated. #westernfront
