Why does it feel as though we are fighting those meant to protect us? I stand firmly against the excessive use of force by the Gambian police. The public is not the enemy—peaceful protest must never be met with violence.

The tragedy is that this was avoidable. Arresting peaceful protesters has never succeeded in silencing citizens. Lasting solutions come from listening n serving, not from force or intimidation. True leadership seeks dialogue, not force. The voice of the people cannot be silenced

The law requiring police approval for peaceful protest should be reviewed. Arresting citizens, especially when no obstruction, chaos, or damage is caused, is concerning. The public must be guaranteed the right to protest.

@serign_joof I agree safety and protection are important. My concern is when the law is applied in a way that restricts peaceful expression. A notification system could still allow coordination with police while safeguarding the right to protest.

Last parts yes I agree. First part, I mean in most countries the police must issue permit/approval for peaceful protests. It’s for protection and safety!
