@lizbayleyphysio @DrJN_SportsMed Interestingly would abduct and adduct the foot to see how the medial flexors perform in and out of plane and at end range for flexibility and strength. Especially in elderly & sports people as the FHL and FDL often have to stabilise propulsion and change direction simultaneously

@HalsteadDr @DrJN_SportsMed Interesting, what additional ways would you assess outside of what I demonstrate in this clip? I also look at closed chain range and strength as part of a fuller assessment. Open to all ideas and methods. I’ve found these very helpful over the years 🦶🏼

MSK clinicians overall are poor / average at examining the foot - we seem to think the body ends at the ankle 🤣 Having shadowed @lizbayleyphysio in her clinic at Until (Soho), I can categorically state her approach is the most comprehensive & clinically / functionally integrated that i’ve ever seen. This video evaluating the hallux & FHL is just one of many examples. In fact i’ve put links to her IG posts in my e-portfolio for appraisal as reference to return to 👏👏👏

Teaching🦶🏼 This foot was asymptomatic, but showed signs of FHL tightness/weakness. These tests are a slightly crude measure of strength/function, but can be useful as a cluster to help understand the tissues in & around the big toe when teamed with a thorough subjective history.

@ProfDavidHunter @jointactionorg I agree walking is vital for health and wellbeing. Due to the prevalence of lower limb OA also present in the foot. Appreciation of aids and foot wear are key. I recommend walking boots and walking poles to enhance gait efficency.

@ProfDavidHunter Thamks for posting, do you think our OA exercise models are gender specific enough, especially given the hormone changes in women
