Raison pour laquelle j’ai fait convoquer ce jour l’ambassadeur d’Iran en Belgique pour condamner fermement toutes les violences commises par le régime, les détentions arbitraires, les intimidations, la coupure d’Internet, le tout visant à réprimer un mouvement pacifique, un mouvement appelant à la démocratie, l’aspiration légitime des Iraniennes et des Iraniens à une meilleure vie. Je continue à suivre l’évolution de la situation avec mes collègues européens. La Belgique est disposée à discuter de nouvelles sanctions européennes. — De situatie in Iran baart ons grote zorgen. “Evacuate Tehran” is nothing more than a populist slogan meant to later claim: “We didn’t intend to kill Iranian civilians; they just refused to leave the war zone.” But how are over 9 million people — without fuel, often without enough savings to relocate, and with no second home in another city — supposed to evacuate Tehran? If your intention is to kill the people of Iran, at least have the honesty not to hide the burden of that responsibility. Your war is not with the people of Iran. If you attack them, you are, in truth, killing hostages. And you know very well that such a crime will plant seeds of hatred that could deprive generations — both ours and yours — of the peace and calm we all long for. No child should become a victim of decisions made by politicians hiding behind the iron walls of their palaces.

It’s around 3 am in Tehran and over 10 million people are being ordered to leave their houses “immediately” by a post on social media…

This is like asking everyone in Los Angeles to get up and go when LAX is closed and not everyone has a car. Millions of people, an entire city, cannot leave at the drop of a hat. This is madness.
