Idle question for the #MUFC hivemind. In your opinion, what sort of traits are important for a backup goalkeeper at Manchester United?

@Ankaman616 I hope then Martinez is back for Villa. I wonder why Mbuemo or Amad left wasn't tried at least for 5-10 mins last night given the imbalance and how Cunha has looked quite strong on the right.

@HammerLegend Loads of ingredients to it. Cunha is a victim of an imperfect storm. Hard to see how things get fixed before Dorgu and Martinez get back from injury.

This was my question to Carrick last night. I've since looked at the data and Cunha definitely had more touches closer to the touchline compared to Palace, which is good. In my opinion, he has difficulty stretching the play and working outside his full-back at the moment. Tricky

@utdrobbo Plus he has 2 years recent experience as Manager in England. Way more qualified than Ole was at the time.

I'll never understand the logic that Carrick shouldn't get the job because of what happened to Solskjaer. Not only are they not even remotely similar coaches but that logic essentially rules out every manager in football. We shouldn't appoint an experienced manager because of Mourinho & Van Gaal. We shouldn't appoint a rising manager because of Ten Hag & Amorim. We shouldn't appoint a Premier League proven manager because of Moyes. Not to mention that the club has been vastly restructured since.

@Ankaman616 Regardless of best fit longer term, you have to reward Cunha for those two performances off the bench against Fulham.

@utdrobbo What I'd hope is that he earns the job (or not) based on what Wilcox and others see every day on the training ground, as well as results and performances that we all see. They have Ten Hag and Amorim to benchmark him against.

If there was a 21 year old I'd throw in at no.3 in the Ashes I know who I'd choose, it's the one with 11 FC centuries. Bethell clearly talented but they're asking way too much of him.

Seen a lot of reactions to this but there’s really no need to stress. Barcelona have tracked J.J. Gabriel for over three years, so the interest isn’t new. United are clearly showing their intent — allowing him to train with the first team when it’s possible, regular U18 minutes, and I wouldn’t even rule out a FA Cup debut. He also signed a two-year deal in August, so there’s no immediate threat till 2027. Wilcox has this under control. Luckhurst is just using the weekend hat-trick vs Livepool to recycle the story for engagement. Relax. No need to panic just yet.
