🌍 Representing Luxembourg at Model NATO at the FCDO 🇱🇺
Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to take part in the annual @MYBISA Model NATO Conference at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Engaging in crisis-driven discussions in the historic Locarno Room was a challenging and rewarding experience, reinforcing the importance of diplomacy and multilateral cooperation.
Huge thanks to @MatthewAlanHill, @LJMU & my peers for the preparation! This experience has deepened my passion for international security.

Are You Truly Involving Young Voices, or Just Ticking a Box? ✅
It’s a question I’ve asked myself many times, and sadly, it happens more often than we realise. Young people and underrepresented individuals are invited to panels, projects, and discussions, but instead of feeling heard, they leave feeling like a token ... just a tick-box, present for show rather than a true contributor. 🙁
I recently spoke with the CEO of a youth-focused organisation, and we both agreed: This is a major issue that needs to be addressed!
I’ve been in rooms where I was the only young person, and felt like decisions had already been made before I even stepped in. Instead of feeling valued, I left wondering: Was I genuinely involved, or just there to ‘represent’ youth on paper? 📝
To organisations and event organisers—if you truly want to engage young people, ask yourself the following? 💡
🚨 Are we offering young people real decision-making power, or just giving them a seat for show?
🗣 Do we create spaces where young voices are heard and their ideas shape the conversation?
🌍 Are we involving young people from diverse backgrounds, or only selecting the same voices?
🔄 How do we ensure young people stay engaged beyond a single meeting or event?
❓ If young voices are missing, what barriers exist and how can we remove them?
💡 It’s great to have inclusion officers, but do the young people actually feel truly included and valued?
These are questions I ask myself before joining any project. Do I feel like my opinion will matter, or am I just ticking a box?
But it’s not just about one-off events. Are you thinking long-term? Are you reaching out to local youth councils, schools, or youth centres to ensure that young voices are continually involved, not just in a single discussion, but throughout ongoing projects? Are you staying up to date with how young people engage and what they need, ensuring sustainable relationships and encouraging meaningful engagement over time? It’s about building those lasting connections that truly make a difference.🤝
If you’re reading this and thinking, “Maybe I haven’t fully involved young voices in decision-making,” it’s time for reflection. Having a young person in the room isn’t enough, we should be shaping the conversation, not just sitting through it. With young people present is it catered so they can engage fully and not full of jargon? ⁉️
So, if you’re leading an organisation or planning an event, ask yourself how you can genuinely bring young people into the heart of decision-making, making sure they feel seen, heard, and valued, not just in one meeting, but consistently.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Have you ever felt like just a ‘tick-box?' 🧠

@coverpoint8 100% agree!! It was the most awful thing to see and the pressure they are put under in such extreme heat too. It made me feel so sad that because of where I was born I was treated better even though we were the same ethnicity. Yet they continue to work so so hard 😕

Today was an interesting event especially listening to the students figure out what is essential hygiene and what isn’t. I was surprised to find out that a lot of adults still rinse their mouth with water/mouthwash after brushing.
