Delighted to celebrate Prof. @HanqingJiang, recipient of the 2025 Yonggang Huang Engineering Science Medal from the Society for Engineering Science, as a keynote speaker in a symposium in his honor today – very much apologize for the need to do my presentation remotely from a hotel room in London! I had an opportunity not only to congratulate Hanqing, but also to thank him for (1) serving as one of the first graduate students involved in a collaboration between Prof. Yonggang Huang’s group and my own, culminating in papers on stretchable silicon (Science and PNAS in 2006 and 2007) and kickstarting a collaboration between Yonggang and my groups that now spans more than 20 years and more than 400 co-authored papers, (2) sending one of his best PhD students – @cunjiangyuUIUC (now on the faculty at UIUC) – to me as a postdoctoral fellow, one of the most productive to move through my group and (3) collaborating with us on a recent advanced haptic actuator technology, published late last year in Nature. My talk focused on our work in 3D frameworks as functional interfaces to organoids – electronics and microfluidics! So happy for Hanqing that he won this very well deserved medal named in honor of his PhD advisor – what a special circumstance! Congratulations (and thank you (x3)!) again!
