SB 641, which weakens the Aboveground Storage Tank Act, passed out of the House Energy and Public Works Committee yesterday. The bill was significantly improved, but it still weakens protections for drinking water.

I tried to force debate on the House floor on the Ratepayer Bill of Rights. Unfortunately, despite some Republican support, we were unable to debate and vote on the bill.

In 2025, floods devastated communities across West Virginia. Leader Hornbuckle successfully amended the budget to add $25 million to the Flood Resiliency Fund. House Dems have fought for this investment for years. Enough supermajority members joined us this time to get it done.

The data center rule, without protections for local groundwater, streams, and water users, just passed the House by a vote of 78-16.

SB 4 is an unconstitutional bill that will restrict the rights of West Virginians to protest and videotape ICE agents and their local counterparts when they’re active in West Virginia cities.

We came close to amending the data center rule to protect streams & groundwater from massive water withdrawals. I sponsored this amendment w/Del. Bridges. While it failed 8-12, I wanted to thank the 6 Rs who voted w/me and Del. Young. This is only one step; the fight isn’t over!

Today at 3:00 in House Energy and Public Works Committee - an amendment to HB 4983 to require data centers to disclose how they will impact our rivers, streams, and groundwater.

I spoke in favor of HB 4696, to allow WV to accept hundreds of millions of federal dollars to clean up polluted coal mine drainage. Thank you President Biden and (mostly) Dems in Congress for passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that’s helping WV’s environment and economy.
