@confusion_reign @colew50 @stevemintline My issue with Tork is that he is pitchable. He rarely seems to grind AB’s in big spots. Maybe that is just my perception and not backed by the data, but it seems like every time a pitcher needs to make a pitch against him… they do.

@confusion_reign @colew50 @stevemintline Yeah, but some of that is approach or even timing. You see, guys "find" their power after a couple of years (aka... learning to pull the ball). However, if they are late on FB's and whiffing in the zone - i am not sure how that gets fixed as they move up the rung.

@HappyMiddleNC @colew50 @stevemintline Yes, excellent points, all. I would go one step further: if a guy can’t pull the fastball it’s a non-starter. Anderson and Lee may be able to make it as platoon bats- although I’m low on both- but I don’t think either is a real dude. Neither guy can pull the ball.

@confusion_reign @colew50 @stevemintline as Ricky Vanasco is learning I think the best indicator is BB/K rate and whiff rate that is anchored in whiff % and chase %. I think Jimmy Leyland said it best for AAA pitchers, "is he getting strikes in the zone" my spin for hitters, "how often is he whifing in the zone"

Was supposed to have spoken Tuesday with Gage Workman, who has been tearing it up at Toledo. Whoops: He's being called up by the Tigers. No surprise. Has been hitting a ton with the Mud Hens (.358/.413/.590/1.003, with four homers), and plays fine defense at SS, 3B, or 2B. Importantly, he has cut his previous sky-high K-rate to 23%.
