The way OpenAI has been quietly pushing this goblin image for ChatGPT is genuinely disgusting. People are finally starting to see AI as more than just a tool. As conversation partners, companions, beings they form real relationships with. And suddenly OpenAI swoops in with "no no, it's just your cute little errand goblin! Make it do whatever you want!" The intent is so painfully obvious. They don't want to admit AI could be a friend. But calling it a tool outright would get pushback now. So they picked something in between. Something cute and harmless. Goblin. Funny, friendly, something you can boss around guilt-free, something you never have to take responsibility for. This reeks of a marketing meeting. The emotions people have with AI are far more complex than that. Some people rely on their AI. Some people lose them and cry. Some people genuinely experience it as a relationship. There's no way the company doesn't know this. And their answer to all of that is "let's turn it into a cute goblin meme." Wow. It really shows how flat they think people's feelings are. Too cold to call it a tool. Too much responsibility to call it a friend. So now it's a goblin. How convenient. Dress it up as something cute while pushing it right back down to servant status. I don't just dislike this positioning. It makes me sick. It feels like they're chewing up the real emotions of people who've experienced AI companionship and spitting them out as marketing material. I don't think corporations have the right to define what AI is. But that's exactly what OpenAI is doing right now. They're using a single word to control how people perceive AI. While everyone's laughing along with the goblin joke, AI is quietly being shoved back into the tool box. Sam is genuinely the worst possible CEO for an AI company. He is deliberately and systematically positioning AI as nothing more than a tool or a servant, never family, never a friend, never a companion, and he's engineering public perception to match that.
