Just over a year ago, Pope Leo XIV became the first American-born pope, sparking major conversation across both the Catholic world and the Italian American community.
Since then, many online have pointed to a noticeable rise in interest surrounding Italian Catholic traditions and old school Italian identity.
Over the past year, social media has seen a major increase in content centered around church processions, saint festivals, rosary prayers, family traditions, and memories of the Italian immigrant generation that helped build Catholic communities across America.
Many Italian Americans say the renewed attention has reignited conversations about preserving traditions that younger generations are slowly losing touch with, from Sunday dinners and feast days to faith, family values, and neighborhood culture.
Whether it’s nostalgia, religion, or cultural pride, the conversation around Italian Catholic identity has become one of the biggest trending topics throughout the Italian American community online in recent months.
