Techie details: a disk check was needed subsequent to the power outage, but it didn't run till I booted as root. Unfortunately the error message on *standard* boot was splendidly uninformative, or I'd have solved it hours ago...

Our #CQPweb server at cqpweb.lancs.ac.uk is suffering from issues which appear to arise from campus-wide problems that began just after 2 pm GMT. #BNCweb, the #LancsBox site, and misc other systems are also affected as it's the machine, not the program, that's misbehaving!

@12pri34 I worked out the problem - the new version of PHP wasn't picking up the right config file. I'd put the file in the right place but not restarted the PHP daemon!

The Lancaster #CQPweb server will be down for an operating system upgrade from 10pm BST Sun Oct 1st to 9am BST Mon Oct 2nd cqpweb.lancs.ac.uk ... progress will be posted here during the downtime.

And everything is now (apparently!!) working again. Downtime over.

BNCweb working again now the Perl installation is back up to date. Now onto the R setup.

#CQPweb system update: cqpweb.lancs.ac.uk server is now offline. Work begins. Note bncwe.lancs.ac.uk and corpora.lancs.ac.uk will also be down until after the upgrade. This thread = progress reports.

For anyone interested in the details: the server runs Debian and is still using bullseye, so an update to either bookworm or trixie is needed. My development machines are also in the process of shifting to trixie - so I can start using PHP 8.2 instead of 7.whatever bullseye has.

Big #CQPweb news: users on the Lancaster server cqpweb.lancs.ac.uk can now install corpora 2 or 3 times bigger than previously: 10 million words untagged, 2 million words tagged. #corpus #linguistics @CorpusSocialSci @LAEL_LU @LancasterUni
