We begin with America’s first Black military aviators—Alabama’s own Tuskegee Airmen. Their efforts helped propel the U.S. and our allies to victory during WWII and paved the way for the integration of the Armed Forces. These men are true American HEROES who fought bravely on behalf of this nation in the face of racism and discrimination. Their heroism will always be a part of American history.

Our nation has lost a true Civil Rights champion. At just 15 years old, nine months before the arrest of Rosa Parks, Claudette Colvin refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus and helped ignite a movement that reshaped America. Her story is often overlooked, yet her quiet courage paved the way for generations to claim their rightful place in our democracy. My prayers are with Ms. Colvin's family and loved ones. May we honor her legacy by continuing the fight for justice and equality. 🙏🏾

The fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman by an ICE agent is both heartbreaking and unacceptable. A system that deploys overwhelming force in our communities erodes trust, deepens fear, and diminishes our shared humanity. Kingian Nonviolence teaches us that every life has dignity and that justice is love correcting everything that stands against love. This callous taking of a life under the banner of “law and order” stands against love. We must demand transparency, full accountability, and a transformation of any policies that treat some lives as expendable.

Five years ago today, a violent mob brutally attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Their mission was to overturn a free and fair election. We will never allow extremists to whitewash their treachery.
