During his decades of service as Executive Director and Chief Medical Examiner, Dr. Luis Sanchez transformed the department into a national leader in the field of forensic sciences, fought for critical funding that will expand the department’s capacity to test DNA in property crimes, and led the Institute through numerous natural disasters and major crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and so much more. On the last day of Black History Month, Judge Lina Hidalgo joined Commissioner Rodney Ellis, community leaders and public health professionals for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Riverside Hospital in Third Ward. Before Riverside was dedicated in 1926, there weren’t any institutions that provided dignified care for Black people in Houston. Today, the Riverside Health Hub is a testament to what the county can do for the next generation of people in Harris County.

From the hat toss to the dirt! Judge Lina Hidalgo is ready to rodeo because in Harris County, we celebrate our traditions. The Rodeo represents hard work, resilience, and community. From supporting local students through scholarships to boosting our regional economy, it’s a Texas-sized impact.

Judge Lina Hidalgo welcomed Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials to NRG Stadium with a hat toss to rodeo officials. Judge Hidalgo also viewed the laying of the dirt in NRG Stadium as crews prepared the grounds.
