Momentum: The Pre-TGE DeFi case study you shouldn’t miss Let’s be real: the current king of mindshare on CT right now is definitely @MMTFinance 👀 The project goes way beyond the usual ve(3,3) concept; it’s positioning itself as the core liquidity engine of the Sui ecosystem, building a full-stack suite of financial tools that let every stakeholder earn yield, trade, and participate in the protocol’s upside. This post isn’t another shill on how good Momentum is or the hype around its upcoming IDO on @buidlpad (which I’m also eyeing for my contribution approval). Instead, let’s break down what the Momentum team has executed pre-TGE plan, how those moves shaped their traction today, and why this deserves to be seen as a benchmark case study for any DeFi project gearing up for launch. Background Momentum’s ve(3,3) DEX mainnet went live on April 7, following the success of the team’s earlier product, Msafe - a multi-sig treasury tool with vesting and dApp integrations on Sui and Aptos. Msafe alone helped the team raise $10M from top-tier investors like Circle, Coinbase, and Spartan, proving they already had a strong foundation of tech, fundraising experience, and community trust before entering the DEX game. By May, Momentum’s TVL had surged to around $100M, making it the #2 DEX on Sui; an impressive climb for a fresh launch. The turning point Then came a pivotal moment: the @CetusProtocol hack At the time, Cetus, the leading ve(3,3) DEX on @SuiNetwork, dominated other liquidity hubs with over $240M in TVL, hosting nearly all major pairs. But after the severe hack that wiped out around 70% of its liquidity, things turned fast. Despite their attempts to recover, trust once lost is hard to regain. And in DeFi, liquidity only follows confidence with the back of potential return. Users began shifting their assets elsewhere, and the one protocol perfectly positioned to absorb that wave was, of course, Momentum. Blast off TVL and traction Momentum didn’t wait around: when opportunity came, they grabbed it fast. In DeFi, timing is everything, and the team knew it was their moment to take the throne. Nothing attracts users and investors like traction. And for a DEX, that means two numbers matter most: TVL and trading volume. TVL fuels the flywheel, and once it starts spinning, the rest follows: volume, users, fees, and attention. The OKX cryptopedia To fuel up that flywheel, Momentum launched a campaign with @wallet, starting with OKX Cryptopedia. For anyone unfamiliar, Cryptopedia is OKX’s quest hub: users complete a mix of social and on-chain tasks for rewards. Social tasks help onboard new followers (mainly through X and Telegram/Discord), while on-chain tasks drive actual swaps and LP activity. Momentum’s promise of $1M in $MMT tokens as TGE rewards pulled massive attention and, more importantly, massive liquidity. The campaign didn’t just bring users; it built the on-chain fundamentals needed to promote a confident and data-backed TGE. WAGMI Trading competition Then came the WAGMI Trading Competition, another key growth lever designed to accelerate traction inside the Sui ecosystem. Partnering with top protocols, wallets, and market makers, Momentum made WAGMI the hottest campaign on Sui since June. Everyone was farming “brick points” for future airdrops & higher contribution cap for coming IDO. With Tier-1 VC backing, the hype was undeniable. InfoFi - The amplification engine With InfoFi still one of the hottest narratives of 2025, tapping into creator-driven platforms was a genius move. Alongside what seems to be a big KOL push (judging from Kaito leaderboard activity), the team also integrated @KaitoAI and @GiveRep to turn content creators into amplifiers: letting them earn rewards for every tweet, thread, or yap about Momentum. That combination of earned media + incentivized creators created a ripple effect across CT, expanding the brand reach right before the next major event. The Title Deed NFT: From Sale to Community Recognition Originally, the Title Deed NFT was meant to be a paid drop with clear utilities in future Momentum phases. But with a total supply of 49,999 NFTs and a price range of $179–$359, it was a tough sell; especially pre-TGE, when liquidity is tight and ROI is uncertain. NFTs aren’t exactly liquid, and without short-term yield, the risk-to-reward ratio wasn’t appealing. But here’s where the Momentum team showed real instinct as they listened. Instead of forcing a sale, they flipped the script: the NFTs became a free reward for the community and top contributors. Because the value and pricing were already public, turning it into a community giveaway felt like a huge “win” for users. And it wasn’t just a giveaway; it became a competition. To earn one, users had to compete in WAGMI, rank high on Kaito, or be nominated as a top contributor. Suddenly, the NFT became a social badge: proof of onchain activities, engagement, and contribution. This move not only reignited hype but also boosted participation across all Momentum activities: the coming airdrop, the Token Generation Lab, and beyond. Compare that with the @monad NFTs, where users minted and held so many but still missed airdrop eligibility; Momentum’s approach flipped that narrative completely: fair competition, transparent rewards, and clear criteria. That kind of transparency doesn’t just attract users; it builds loyalty. Buidlpad IDO - the grand finale Choosing Buidlpad as the IDO launch partner was a 200 IQ move - a power play to push Momentum’s reputation to the top tier of DeFi launches this cycle. With previous high ROI BuidlPad IDOs like @Lombard_Finance , @solayer_labs, and @falconfinance - all making it to Binance Spot listings, expectations for Momentum’s TGE + IDO were instantly sky-high. Everyone wanted in. The hype was real, and that’s when all the genius pre-TGE mechanics tapped into the rocket. TVL accelerator To secure a better allocation for MMT at an FDV of $250M, BuidlPad users were required to stake liquidity on Momentum, with a minimum of $3,000. The more liquidity staked, the higher your purchase cap. This single mechanic did three things at once: ✅ Attracted whales from Buidlpad’s user base. ✅ Pumped TVL directly into Momentum’s pools. ✅ Created a self-reinforcing loop of hype → more liquidity staking → exclusive benefits → more hype. Nearly 60% of Momentum’s TVL comes directly from the BuidlPad HODL campaign: a masterclass in aligning liquidity incentives with launch access. Community Contributors: The hype flywheel Up to 30% of the Community Offering was allocated to content creators and contributors from Momentum’s ecosystem. To qualify, users had to spotlight Momentum, tag BuidlPad, and add “Ⓜ️Ⓜ️T” to their X profile. The result? A full-on user-generated tsunami. KOLs, creators, and degen farmers all jumped headfirst into the UGC challenge, grinding for a $150 non-diluted allocation; a solid deal when the last BuidlPad IDO hit 2,800% subscription. Within days, X turned into a Momentum arena: threads, charts, memes, moonsheets, even mini-research articles. It wasn’t just content; it was competition. Squads formed. Creators experimented with formats, tones, and hooks to make their posts stand out and farm engagement. The effect was massive. Momentum wasn’t trending by luck, it was engineered through coordinated UGC virality. Thousands of conversations popped up across CT, all feeding into one narrative: Momentum is the pre-TGE story to watch. The campaign pushed Momentum to #2 in Pre-TGE buzz, right behind Polymarket, and miles ahead of other launches. Organic reach, community incentives, and structured virality - all before TGE even happens. What’s next? Now, all eyes are on Momentum & Sui ecosystem, and the question everyone’s asking: “How big will MMT’s TGE be?” Personally, I see two major mindshare waves still incoming - Buidlpad subscription reveal: total raised, allocation per user, and estimated TGE valuation. - Listing performance: will $MMT get listed Binance/Upbit? What’s the ATH ROI? Will we get another ‘XPL $7K airdrop moment’? Regardless of short-term moves, one thing’s clear: Momentum has already won the pre-TGE mindshare war of Q4. A well-deserved result for the strategies and execution they’ve been running since June. The real question now: can they sustain the hype post-TGE and deliver long-term value to $MMT holders?
