Strategy just confirmed it sold 3,588 BTC last week to cover dividend payments on its preferred stock. $216 million. Largest Bitcoin sale since 2022. It is crucial to understand what actually happened. This was not Saylor losing conviction, nor was it a bearish call on Bitcoin, this was a financial obligation coming due with no other way to meet it. Two tranches. June 30 then July 6. Mechanical, forced. Had nothing to do with where anyone thinks Bitcoin is going. There is a fundamental difference between forced selling and panic selling that most people confuse. Panic selling is emotional and reverses when sentiment shifts. Forced selling does not care about sentiment. It happens because an obligation comes due and Bitcoin is the only liquid asset on the balance sheet to meet it. They look identical on a chart. They are completely different animals. Here is the part that should actually concern you. Strategy is not the only company that built this model. Dozens of treasury companies copied the playbook. Bitcoin on the balance sheet, financed by preferred stock and convertible debt paying fixed dividends. Every single one of them carries this exact structural risk. When dividends come due and capital markets are not cooperative, Bitcoin gets sold. Not because of conviction, because of math. Strategy is the biggest and most visible, it will not be the last. $BTC
