More than 300 dead cows were found lying in the open at a municipal dumping yard near Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, sparking outrage after disturbing videos from the site spread widely on social media on Sunday (May 24). The incident, which surfaced from a dumping ground on Ramgarh Road around 7 km from the district headquarters, has intensified questions over cattle protection, civic oversight, and the handling of dead animal disposal in the region. The visuals angered many locals and cow lovers, who said the condition in which the animals were found exposed the reality behind repeated claims of cow welfare and protection. According to police and local officials, the carcasses had allegedly been dumped in the open instead of being disposed of in the designated area assigned to the contractor responsible for handling dead animals within Municipal Council limits. The matter came to light after a group of Gau Premis visited the dumping yard on Saturday and found carcasses scattered across the area. As the videos spread across social media on Sunday, anger began building among local residents and people associated with cow welfare groups. Following the uproar, Jaisalmer District Collector Anupama Jorwal sought a factual report on the matter, while Municipal Council Commissioner Lajpal Singh Sodha issued a show cause notice to the contractor concerned. The incident has also reignited debate around the condition of stray cattle and the functioning of gaushalas in the state. Residents and cow welfare supporters said the images exposed serious gaps in cattle management despite repeated public claims around cow protection. Hukam Dan, a local Gau Premi, expressed shock over the condition in which the animals were found. “The sight is deeply disturbing and shameful. On a land where cows are worshipped, seeing them left to rot in garbage shakes the conscience,” he said. Locals have also demanded better arrangements for stray cattle, including proper shelters, fodder, water supply, and medical treatment facilities. The administration has not yet confirmed whether further action will be taken beyond the notice issued to the contractor.

Three people, including a couple, were brutally killed in BPL flats located within TDI city under Kundli area of Haryana's Sonipat, police said on Monday. Preliminary investigations suggest the murders stemmed from a personal dispute, they added. The incident preceded a minor altercation between the victims and the accused, who thrashed them with iron rods and a sharp weapon. The deceased have been identified as Vijay (50) and his wife Sunita (47) — originally from Kot Mohalla —and Swati (32), a resident of Badoli village, police said. The couple was living in flat no. 1299, while Swati was staying at flat no. 1431. On Sunday late at night, Vijay had an altercation with Brahm Prakash, who resides at flat no. 1426, which subsequently spiralled into a violent brawl. Eyewitnesses said other flatmates rushed to the spot after hearing the duo arguing. In a fit of rage amidst the chaos, Brahm attacked Vijay, Sunita, and Swati with an iron rod and a knife. The trio sustained severe injuries and collapsed on the spot. By the time other residents tried to rescue them, all three had succumbed to their injuries. "We never imagined that a minor dispute would escalate into such a grave tragedy. Our entire family has been devastated," Guddi, daughter of Sunita, said. The accused fled the spot soon after the incident, but was arrested later by personnel from the Kundli police station. The forensic science laboratory (FSL) team members were called to the spot to collect evidence. The bodies have been sent to the civil hospital for postmortem. Outraged by the incident, residents of the area have demanded strict action against the accused.

Anjali, a resident of Jagriti Vihar Sector-3, worked as a staff nurse at Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College. She married Sunny, a resident of Medical Sector-8, in 2018. The couple have a five-year-old son. According to family members, the couple had been facing marital disputes for nearly a year and divorce proceedings are currently underway in court. Anjali had reportedly been living with her brother Pradeep for the past year. During her work at the medical college, she came into contact with Sufiyan, a resident of Lisari Gate, who worked there as a ward boy. The two later developed a relationship. Family members alleged that Sufiyan had been pressuring Anjali to convert her religion and marry him, but she refused. According to police, accused Sajida told investigators that Anjali had come to Lohianagar on May 21. An argument allegedly broke out between Sufiyan and Anjali over marriage. Sajida claimed she also joined the argument. Police said both siblings then allegedly strangled Anjali to death. According to the confession, they initially transported the body on a scooter and later shifted it onto an e-rickshaw before abandoning it outside the medical college. Hospital authorities later informed police and Anjali’s brother about the body. Following the information, SP City Vinayak Gopal Bhosle reached the spot. CCTV footage from the hospital area allegedly showed Sajida travelling in an e-rickshaw. Police detained Sajida and her mother within 1.5 hours of the incident. Sufiyan was arrested on Sunday night. Anjali’s sister Neha, alleged that Sufiyan had been blackmailing her sister and pressuring her to convert and marry him. She claimed to have seen messages on Anjali’s mobile phone in which Sufiyan allegedly asked her to leave her husband and child, convert her religion and marry him. According to Neha, when Anjali refused, he murdered her. Neha further said she had directly asked Anjali whether she intended to marry Sufiyan, but Anjali replied that they were “just friends”. She last met her sister on May 19, when Anjali visited her house because her mother-in-law was injured. Neha said that after receiving news of the murder on May 21, she rushed to the spot and saw marks around Anjali’s neck, along with signs of dragging and assault on her hands and feet. The family also alleged that Sufiyan had cheated Anjali out of ₹5 lakh by promising her a permanent appointment. The rented house in Lohianagar, where Anjali allegedly died was sealed only on the evening of May 23, was two days after the incident. According to the family, Sajida and Sufiyan had already confessed during questioning that the body had been brought from the same house. Despite this, police allegedly failed to secure the crime scene immediately. When Anjali’s family visited the house on May 23, they found it open and informed the police. Only afterwards was the property sealed. Family members have alleged that evidence may have been tampered with during the two-day delay.

Two CCTV footages linked to the murder of 25-year-old staff nurse Anjali Sharma in Meerut have surfaced. Both videos were collected by Anjali’s family members themselves during their own investigation into the case. In the first footage, the main accused, Sufiyan and his sister Sajida are seen carrying Anjali’s body on a scooter. Her feet can be seen dragging along the road before a young man from the neighbourhood runs forward and places them properly on the vehicle. The second footage shows a woman wearing what appears to be a nurse’s apron arriving at Sufiyan’s rented room shortly after the body was removed. Police are now trying to identify the woman and determine why she visited the house after the alleged murder. Both videos were captured by a CCTV camera installed in a house located in the lane opposite Sufiyan’s residence. Police have arrested both main accused, Sufiyan and his sister Sajida. The murder reportedly took place on the afternoon of May 21. In the first CCTV clip, Sajida is seen wearing lowers, a T-shirt and a dupatta. She had covered her face with a helmet and was seated at the front of the scooter. Sufiyan is then seen bringing Anjali’s body out of his rented room. The two struggle to balance the scooter while placing their bodies between them. The body repeatedly tilts from side to side as they attempt to steady it. Sajida drives the scooter while Sufiyan sits behind, holding the body upright in the middle. As they begin moving, Anjali’s feet drag on the road. Seeing this, a local youth rushes towards them and lifts her legs back onto the scooter. Residents of the area gathered after witnessing the disturbing scene. However, the accused allegedly attempted to mislead them. When neighbours questioned Sufiyan and Sajida about what had happened, Sufiyan reportedly claimed that Anjali had suddenly fallen ill. He allegedly told residents that she had suffered heatstroke, was unconscious and unable to speak or walk, and that they were taking her to a doctor. Despite his explanation, locals reportedly remained suspicious. However, assuming it to be a personal matter involving tenants, nobody intervened further. Later, when news of the murder surfaced through the media, residents realised that the duo had been transporting Anjali’s body. Police said the accused later abandoned the body outside Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College. A short while after Sufiyan and Sajida left with the body, another woman was captured on CCTV entering the rented house. The woman appeared to be wearing a coat resembling a nurse’s apron, leading investigators to suspect she may be connected to the medical profession. The footage shows the woman arriving at the house and speaking to a man believed to be Sufiyan. Both are seen talking while moving around outside the house before the woman leaves. Police are now trying to identify who the woman is, where she came from, and what connection she may have to the case. Investigators are examining whether she had prior knowledge of the incident. Anjali Sharma’s elder brother Pradeep Sharma and elder sister, Neha Sharma, claimed they discovered the CCTV footage themselves after visiting the crime scene. According to the family, when they reached Sufiyan’s rented accommodation, they found the house open and unsealed, despite it being the alleged crime scene. The siblings then spoke to neighbours and checked CCTV cameras installed in the locality. The crucial footage was eventually recovered from a building opposite the rented house. The family has questioned why police failed to immediately secure the premises.

Police identified the arrested accused as Sajida. Investigators said Sajida helped her brother, Sufiyan, 28, a ward attendant at the same hospital, strangle Anjali to death and later transported the body in an e-rickshaw before abandoning it outside the emergency gate of the hospital where the victim herself worked as a nurse. Police said Sufiyan, a resident of Lisari Gate, remains absconding and multiple teams have been formed to arrest him. Police said Anjali had reportedly been under stress due to the alleged harassment and stalking. SP (city) Vinayak Gopal Bhosale said: “Preliminary investigation revealed that Anjali had gone to the Lohiya Nagar area on Thursday morning where a confrontation took place between her, Sufiyan, and Sajida. During the altercation, the accused allegedly strangled her to death”. “After the murder, Sufiyan allegedly fled the scene while Sajida transported the body to the medical college in an e-rickshaw and abandoned it outside the emergency ward before escaping,” he said adding that the accused confessed to her crime during interrogation. Actor Bhumi Pednekar has reacted strongly to a video showing some men making obscene and groping gestures looking at a woman’s wall painting near a swimming pool. Her response comes at a time after the last few days have seen several reports of deaths, especially of Twisha Sharma and Deepika Nagar, linked to dowry harassment and mental torture drew widespread attention. Sharing the clip on Instagram Stories, Bhumi said the video reflected a troubling mindset and called for stronger legal action. The incident, first shared by the Instagram account Tube Indian, spread quickly on social media and prompted sharp reactions online. Reposting the video, Bhumi wrote, “This is the mentality of our youth. These are the same people who are going to sexually assault children and women. We are in a pandemic. Just words and showing shame isn't enough. Stricter laws, stricter laws, stricter laws (sic).” This is not the first time the actor has spoken out over such incidents. In January, she said she was deeply disturbed by reports that a six-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three boys aged 10, 13 and 14 in Delhi. Reacting to the case, she described the accused as monsters and said society was failing because people still believed they could get away with sexual violence. Bhumi had then said, “Breaks my heart to see underage boys go through with something so heinous. Imagine the environments they are growing up in. We are punishing the voiceless in our country, and have sensationalised, dogs being a threat.” In the last few days, Kangana Ranaut and Ridhi Dogra have also spoken on issues surrounding women, marriage and the question of not valuing their own independence enough. Bhumi made her acting debut in Dum Laga Ke Haisha opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. She was last seen in Prime Video’s series Daldal, directed by Amrit Raj Gupta and based on Vish Dhamija’s bestselling book, Bhendi Bazaar. In the show, she played DCP Rita Ferreria, who must track down a serial killer who slits his victims’ wrists. The series also stars Samara Tijori and Aditya Rawal in lead roles, with Geeta Agrawal, Chinmay Mandlekar, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, Rahul Bhat, Sandeep Kulkarni, Shivraj Walvekar, Sandesh Kulkarni and Jaya Bhattacharya in supporting parts. It was released on January 30.

Relatives of deceased Kande Venkanna on Monday clarified the circumstances surrounding the incident in Bhadrachalam and said the hospital staff were not responsible for what happened. Speaking to the media, the family members said Venkanna was admitted to the hospital after suffering a severe heatstroke. Doctors immediately shifted him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and began treatment without delay, they said. Despite the doctors’ efforts, Venkanna died a short while later. According to the family, they had stepped out to make funeral arrangements, and since their residence was located nearby, friends carried the body on their shoulders before the ambulance arrived. The relatives alleged that some private ambulance drivers recorded videos and photographs during the incident. They further said the friends, in a moment of confusion and urgency, mistakenly carried the body themselves. The family appreciated the doctors and hospital staff for their prompt response and support during the difficult time, reiterating that the hospital authorities were not at fault.

A heartbreaking scene from Telangana’s Bhadrachalam Government Hospital has triggered outrage after the family of a 42-year-old man allegedly had to carry his body on their shoulders because no hospital ambulance was available. Kande Venkanna, a resident of Subhash Nagar in Bhadrachalam town, had been admitted to the Area Government Hospital after suffering from heatstroke and dehydration. He died while undergoing treatment on Sunday night. According to the family, hospital authorities failed to provide an ambulance to transport the body home despite government rules mandating such facilities for deceased patients. Unable to afford a private vehicle immediately, grieving relatives carried Venkanna’s body on their shoulders from the ward, drawing anger from locals over the state of public healthcare services. Dr Ramakrishna, Superintendent of the Bhadrachalam Government Area Hospital, said Venkanna had been rushed to the hospital after suffering from dehydration and later died during treatment. “The family approached a private ambulance to take the body home. The hospital ambulance was under repair at a workshop, so they carried the body from the ward to the private ambulance stationed around 500 metres away,” he said. The incident has since sparked criticism from residents, with questions being raised over why alternative arrangements were not made for the bereaved family when the hospital ambulance was unavailable. Locals expressed anger over the situation, saying families dealing with grief should not be left struggling for basic services at government hospitals. The visuals and accounts from the hospital quickly drew attention, with many questioning the preparedness of public hospitals during emergencies, especially amid rising heat-related illnesses across several states.

An 18-year-old student from Karnataka who recently appeared for the NEET examination and died by suicide last week had lied to her family about scoring 92 per cent in Class 12. Bhagyashree had appeared for the NEET exam on May 2. Weeks later, she was found hanging at her home. The student had told her father that she scored 92 per cent in Class 12 - PUC examination, whose results were declared on May 21. Shortly after her death, Bhagyashree's father, Rajashekhar, had said that she was doing well academically. "She had passed the PUC exam with 92% marks. There was no distress or problem in our family, and we were living happily. She had performed well (in NEET), and everything was going well. Maybe she had some feelings in her mind about writing it (NEET) again," he said. However, when he checked her Class 12 marksheet online, it painted a different picture - Bhagyashree had failed the exam. In Physics, Bhagyashree had scored 45 marks, including 30 internal marks. In Mathematics, she had secured a total of 24 marks, including 20 internal marks. Officials said the student had high expectations about her Class 12 results. "She was happy with the family. She had told us she scored 92 per cent in PUC. Now she is gone...whom should we blame?" an emotional Rajshekhar told the media. The grieving father also stated that the family does not wish to accuse anyone in connection with the incident. A case has been filed under the jurisdiction of the Station Bazar Police Station. Cops have not found any suicide note yet, officials said. There have been several student suicide deaths linked to the NEET-UG 2026 exam cancellation recently. On May 16, a medical aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Rajasthan. The student's family said he had performed well in the exam and was expecting around 650 marks this time but became distressed after the test was cancelled. Udyog Nagar station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Kumar said that the victim, identified as Pradeep Meghwal, was a resident of Kanika ki Dhani village in Jhunjhunu's Gudha Gaudji area. He had been living in Sikar with his two sisters for the past three years while preparing for the medical entrance exam at a private coaching institute. The National Testing Agency cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination earlier this month after allegations of irregularities and a paper leak, affecting more than 22 lakh aspirants. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan later announced that the re-examination will be held on June 21 and that the medical entrance test will move to a computer-based format from next year.

An employee of a public sector bank was arrested in Gujarat's Ahmedabad for allegedly smuggling Rs 8.7 crore out of an RBI currency chest and laundering the stolen money into properties and cryptocurrency, police said Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended the accused, Harsiddh Kadiyar, a junior custodian with the Bank of Baroda, who executed the multi-crore theft on January 13, after tracking him down to the Sola area on Friday, Assistant Commissioner of Police D Division Hitendra Chaudhary said. Kadiyar has been remanded in police custody until May 27, he said. The official said that the accused was a junior joint custodian at the Bank of Baroda's Gandhi Road branch in the Kalupur area, which houses a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) currency chest. According to police, Kadiyar, along with two contract labourers, allegedly smuggled the cash out of the bank under the guise of disposing of used iron boxes. However, the boxes were allegedly filled with currency notes worth Rs 8.7 crore. The accused continued to report for work until April 20 to avoid suspicion, assuming that the CCTV footage capturing the theft would be automatically deleted after 90 days. He later disappeared and went on prolonged sick leave, ACP Chaudhary said. He said the theft came to light during a routine verification ahead of an RBI inspection after a newly appointed in-charge of the currency chest noticed the missing currency notes. An FIR was registered at the Kalupur police station on May 15, he said. The police have recovered Rs 2.2 crore in cash from the boot of a car parked at the spot where Kadiyar was arrested. During interrogation, Kadiyar confessed to using part of the stolen money to purchase a house in Chandkheda, a commercial vehicle, and a shop in Ahmedabad. He also allegedly gave Rs 23 lakh to a female colleague for purchasing a house and handed over an additional Rs 5 lakh in cash to her, police said. The accused also began trading in cryptocurrency markets and invested a portion of the stolen money there, they said.

In a sensational heist, cash worth ₹8.70 crore was allegedly stolen from the RBI Currency Chest of Bank of Baroda on Gandhi Road, with CCTV footage of the incident surfacing on Monday. The accused, identified as Harsiddh Kadiyar, had reportedly been working as a Joint Custodian at the bank for the past 15 years. According to police sources, he allegedly carried out the theft in pursuit of a lavish lifestyle. Investigators said that on the night of January 13, 2026, Kadiyar allegedly misled security personnel by claiming he was stepping out to dispose of scrap material kept inside a box. Police suspect the box actually contained ₹8.70 crore in cash, which he allegedly managed to take out of the heavily guarded currency chest. Officials said the accused continued attending work normally for nearly three months, allegedly believing that the CCTV footage would be automatically erased after 90 days. However, the footage was later recovered and is now considered key evidence in the investigation. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Police are also probing whether the accused had accomplices and are tracking the movement of the stolen cash.
