I'm sure there's a positive case to be made for the plan, and that's fine. But this is a different bitterness, no different from the people who yearn to see the blue-haired barista owned by facts and logic

Darryl Miley #phled Robeson sophomore. Was homeschooled; not the right choice for him. Robeson gives him support. Intimate environment fosters friendships. School would be closed during his senior year according to this plan. Would have detrimental effects on his classmates.

Asiah Alicea #phled Lankenau. Plan has no heart. Plan is no plan. Some thrive at small schools. She used to have severe anxiety, would not ask for help. Since preK would not speak. Now in drama club. Finally able to ask for help. Small class but mighty.

@bikemamadelphia We (@APPSphilly) have asked SDP staff why they are closing #PhlEd schools. They don't give an answer. They just say they want to put more resources into comprehensive high schools. Admitting really that what the students and parents say at meetings really doesn't matter.

I would like the team and time and space that is allowed to the superintendent to answer such a question. Because it’s complex but can say real estate isn’t even the key to the answer or the piece I would be trumpeting.

While the kids being sacrificed now will have long since graduated. Seeing no benefits. The schools will not stabilize under this plan. We know this because they attempted the same close schools and consolidate plan in the 2010s. I have lived it as an employee and parent.

Not sure where folks think instant new funds will come from by the plausible sale of empty schools. The plan being floated is to transfer the properties to the city to manage sale/reuse. The tax return on that plan will take a long time before schools see that.

@DPearsonPHL When you ask them "why are you closing Robeson (or Lankenau or Parkway NW/P & J)" and they say "we want people to go to comprehensive high schools" that is a non-sequitur.

@Haver_Lisa They want to get more people using the neighborhood HSs instead of smaller magnets.

I truly don’t understand why so many people get the vapors over adaptive reuse of schools, and especially about Bok. Bok is a success story! Other cities want to replicate it.

@rw_briggs it's all so sad and desperate. there's one thing every one of these communities want, which is for the state & city to pour money into neighborhood schools and bring them up to high-quality standards, and the state and city will never ever ever ever ever ever do it
