Back to being the most hated club in football. Wouldn’t have it any other way TBH. Media loved us, we gave them stories all year, ‘Hollywood Hawks’… But then we lose. Tall poppy syndrome at its finest. After all, Hawks have been ‘asking for this for sometime now’ 😵‍💫 #HokBall

The VFL is back on ABC. What a time. Some great memories of Phil Cleary on the Saturday afternoon coverage. Great for the game.

No one in the media wash up today wanted to mention the Hawks huge expected score win from last night or the round one game vs GWS. It was only excuses for the Swans missing Gulden/Heeney. No talk about Day or the missed chances Hawks had. Only when it suits their narrative 🤔

"It's now time. It's time for something different for Adelaide. Expected score is 58-19, they're getting flogged. More run, more handball, put someone different behind the ball. They have to get forward quicker" - Ken Hinkley #AFLCrowsDogs

The Hawks transition and game style has changed drastically in comparison to last season. Sacrificing some defensive set ups to move the ball central and quick, instead of the ‘out wide then cut back in’ like last season. High marks per game, short kicks, corridor, overlap when it’s on.. Would much rather be in this position (a top 3-5 offence and defensive team) than 1st-2nd defence and 10th offence. Our defence from any sort of stopped play (Stoppage, Kick in, Intercept etc) has been great, but our unforced errors from the higher risk game style have made it impossible to defend on turnover hence why it’s been quite high scoring so far. I love the mindset ‘we are happy to concede higher scores if it allows us to score heavily aswell’. Looking forward to seeing if we continue this sort of play, especially when challenged late in the year. Go hawks.

Coaches votes: 5. Barrass 4. Gunston 3. Newcombe 2. Moore 1. Ward The W was important. Swans down a few guns but really, we had chances to win by a lot more than we did. Our unforced errors are a worry but teams are struggling to transition naturally against us. Great win

Coaches votes: 5. Sicily 4. Macdonald 3. Barass (8 touches but incredible defensive game) 2. Watson 1. Could be any of 10. Ward/Dimma/Weddle/Impey/Ginni/Moore and still could name 5 more, all great.

Eye test watching live: Bombers can’t score unless it’s from a turnover/mistake. In transition and from stoppage we are defending unreal. Our transition game has been fantastic to start the year, turnovers/errors not so much. Doing what we should be doing, unlike last week.

@goldandbrown4 Might be the only one who thought he had some really good signs last week besides his set shots. Expecting the same.

@HawkTalkPod Sis might have lifted offensively but his defensive stuff has been horrendous. Might be hard to see on TV but just wait till you see his off the ball and one on one efforts.. Super poor.

It's Sis and Wiz digging deep, and that's about it. Everyone else is either hanging back or wilting under pressure when it's their turn #AFLGiantsHawks

Finn, Morrison, Ward, Chol, just getting ran past with ease. This is not the way to start a season. I predicted us to be between 6th-10th but if anything, that was a little too kind.

Worrying trade period, worrying pre season and now a very worrying first quarter. Not ultra surprising, I thought we would be up against with our bottom 6 midfield, but this wasn’t exactly what I was planning for. Disappointing to say the least.

Prediction: If the Hawks are a top 6 side they just win today and fly home 1-0. Tough conditions, undermanned opposition, time to get real and get the job done. The Giants run and gun will hurt Hawks. We have to force turnovers and limit our skill errors in return. Go Hawks

Season prediction time -Win-Loss: 13-10 -Ladder position: 7th-10th -Strengths: Depth in back and front half, interchangeably players all over the ground. -Weaknesses: Midfield/Ball use. Nowhere near the elite standard -Nightmare scenario: Newcombe injured or Day injured again

@mappatassie73 Decision making under pressure is the main reason for skill errors. Pressure on ball carrier is huge at AFL level. But yes, after a few years in the system they should be better

@HawkMan131415 You shouldn’t need to be an “elite” mid to kick a drop punt to a leading forward. How do blokes get drafted when they cannot complete this most basic of skills. Constantly baffles me.

Sloppy first half. Disposal going inside 50 a huge issue, as it has been for the last few years. Missing a few elite mids I fear.

The game in general is remarkable even, if anything it’s being played on our terms, but the ball use/decision making going forward is worrying. Opposition goals look easy when you have horrible turnovers and can’t set up. Our biggest weakness (Elite ball users/mids) on display.

A lot to like about the draft for Hawks. Upside galore, high impact and low risk. Greeves might have some deficiencies and be on the slower side, but so do most 18 year olds. Don’t overthink and forget about the talent and potential development he has.
