Bishop Martin has expressed shock & horror at yesterday's devastating news from our partner diocese in Germany: "We are praying for all those affected by the incident in Magdeburg as well as Bishop Friedrich, Bishop Bettina & all in Magdeburg at this terrible time for them."

Sad and distressed by the news from Magdeburg . Have been in touch with our friends in Ovenstedt on the outskirts of the city, sending them our love and prayers. Our church was linked with theirs for over twenty years and we visited them many times.

Great concert last night ⁦@TheCBSO⁩ with Eugene Tzikindelean playing the Elgar Violin concerto. Such a beautiful piece with many haunting moments. Second was Walton’s Orb and Sceptre March which swung along with speed and intensity followed by his second symphony

Great concert. There was also a lovely UK premiere of a piece by @ nicomuhly calledFriday Afternoon set for children and young voices . Only problem was driving home. The M5 was closed so we had a long detour!

Do you know where the phrase ‘movers and shakers’ comes from ? ‘Ode’ by Arthur O’Shaughnessy 1873, set to music by Elgar in The Music Makers and first performed in Birmingham in 1912. Hugely enjoyed @TheCBSO and @CBSOChorus and Youth chorus concert including Elgar’s Music Makers.

We were there too! It was a stunning concert. Lovely that Sir Mark talked about the short piece, by Janacek The Fiddlers Child, rarely played. It deserves more listening.

Stunning concert by @TheCBSO and inspirational @houghhough of Brahms 1 piano and incredible Shostakovich 6 symphony, with Mark Elder returning to Birmingham after 25 years. Wonderful to see a celebrated soloist applauding an orchestra who also looked so excited and animated.

As a retired Health Visitor and midwife I know what a good job Sands do . I have never forgotten baby R who died in 1984. I was the families’ midwife and delivered her a few weeks earlier.

I’m walking 100km in September for every much-loved baby sadly not here today. Anything you’re able to donate truly means so much – I’m only £97 off my target. Thank you fundraising.sands.org.uk/s/16413/16832/t

A couple of thoughts on using phones in concerts following @TheCBSO’s decision to encourage the audience to film clips and share them online - with the disclaimer I don’t think we all need to agree on this…!
